The Top 15 Animated Movies of 2010

The Top 15 Animated Movies of 2010

Fifteen animated movies have been accepted for consideration for the 83rd Academy Awards in the Animated Feature Film category, but only three of them (announced on Jan. 25) will vie for the Oscar on Feb. 27. Have your favorites made the cut?

Of course, my kids' favorites would be... all of them. To them, the best film we’ve ever seen is usually the last film we've seen. (Good news for Alvin & The Chipmunks 2: The Squeakquel, which we revisit often). Kids don't really know good films from bad films, which is all right by me, because it ensures a good time, every time.

My kids and I have seen a few of the big films up for Oscar consideration, and my personal favorite is How to Train Your Dragon, the most original, heartfelt, funny, cinematic and enjoyable animated film that didn't have to pander to its audience with over-their-head jokes and parodies.

Though Toy Story 3 is being called the strong front-runner,  I always think originals should get the edge over sequels -- especially if the word "Shrek" is in there somewhere.

I regret I'll never get around to seeing all these films -- not only does it take gobs of time to see movies these days, but gobs of money as well. It's probably not good for the eyes to see more than two 3-D movies a year anyway.

Here's the Final 15:

Alpha and Omega
Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore
Despicable Me
The Dreams of Jinsha
How to Train Your Dragon
Idiots and Angels
The Illusionist
Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole
Megamind
My Dog Tulip
Shrek Forever After
Summer Wars
Tangled
Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue
Toy Story 3

Which films on this list are your favorites? Chime in now!
