MTV Won't Air Lauren Conrad Reality Show

MTV Won't Air Lauren Conrad Reality Show

Turns out the third time is not the charm for Lauren Conrad.

Last fall, MTV announced that it would be giving the breakout star of Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County and The Hills her third reality show, with this one focusing on LC's budding fashion line. But now, Entertainment Weekly has learned that MTV will not air the series.

"We decided not to go ahead with the show," MTV's head of programming David Janollari tells EW. "[Conrad] did do a pilot. There were talks about whether we could somehow manage to put together a special based on that footage but that's also a big question mark based on her interest in that and the finances."

Unlike Conrad's two previous forays into reality TV, which focused on her personal relationships, the new show was to be more of a documentary chronicling her work in the fashion world.

So why isn't MTV airing the show? "It was a great attempt but it just didn't feel like a perfect fit for us now," says Janollari.

Conrad, who recently turned 25 (and may or may not be engaged), has her own thoughts on the matter. In a statement released to Entertainment Weekly, she says: "We sold a show to MTV, filmed it and are really proud of the final result. MTV felt the subject matter was too highbrow for their audience and offered me the opportunity to change the show by incorporating more of my personal life. We agreed going into the project that this show would be an aspirational one, focusing on my career and my goals and not my personal relationships. We delivered the show that we sold and are sorry MTV didn't feel their viewers were savvy enough to appreciate it."

Too highbrow, huh? Consider our interest piqued. We certainly hope MTV scrapes together that special Janollari mentioned so we can get a glimpse at the show that could have been.

While Conrad's comments hint that she's more than a bit disappointed that MTV passed on the show, LC fans shouldn't star bemoaning the demise of the MTV-Lauren Conrad partnership just yet. "We love her!" insists Janollari. "We would love her on our network!" So long as she keeps things lowbrow, of course.

Are you shocked that MTV would pass on a Lauren Conrad reality series for being too highbrow? Chime in below!
