Rihanna: “We Found Love” This is my favorite video of 2011 because I related most to it. Rihanna made this controversial video while on her Loud Tour in Europe. She gained attention when the owner of the rural farm they shot on asked her to stop cause of her racy outfit. It wasn’t that bad! I love this video and song because it has an old school feel to it – the sound is like old beats I would have listened to back in my troubled teen years while having some of the [...]

Ke$ha, Adam Lambert, Ne-Yo Have A Few Royal Wedding Gift Ideas

From 'guyliner' to American delicacies like Uncrustables, Kathy Griffin, Mike Posner and more tell us what they'd get Will and Kate.

What kind of wedding gift do you give the royal couple who has everything?

The wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton is on Friday (April 29), so MTV News reached out to some of our favorite Hollywood celebrities — from Ke$ha to Adam Lambert. Fortunately, they had some solid ideas!

"I haven't met them, so it would be kind of awkward," the "Tik Tok" singer admitted to MTV News. "I might paint them something. Maybe I'll paint them a guitar."

Like Ke$ha, other celebs had suggestions that were from the heart, even if they weren't the most practical.

"I will go out on a limb and say these two individuals maybe haven't had Uncrustables before in their life. I would get them a strawberry Uncrustable," Mike Posner said about the pastry.

David Cook followed up on the all-American food idea. "I feel like they have everything except maybe they probably don't have an Applebee's gift card. I'll go [with an] Applebee's gift card," the "American Idol" alum said.

Other stars said they'd gift the British prince and soon-to-be-princess with an item they were personally best known for.

"I'd probably buy William some eyeliner," Lambert said. "He could do that, he could rock that look. I think."

Ne-Yo was more empathetic, saying he would give gifts that could help shield them from photographers and blend in with everyday people. "Three years' supply of sunglasses. Yeah, put them on. A bunch of baseball caps, throw those on, and try to move around like regular people," the singer said. "I can't imagine what it would be like having to live under that big of a magnifying glass your whole life ... and fake mustaches, that's what I'd give them."

Brooke Burke went the more traditional route, saying she would get Will and Kate a journal to record the big event. "I would ask them to really take the time to write down thoughts and phrases and wishes," Burke said. "And not really to lose sight of how they feel about each other now and to really hold on to that feeling."

Kathy Griffin had good intentions but the comedian couldn't resist a puke joke.

"If I had to get the royal couple a gift, I would get them the Royal Couple Vomit Bag, which someone sent me a photo of," Griffin told us. "So you can actually buy vomit bags with their image on it, and I think that that is an honor and I hope that they see it as such."

What would you give to William and Kate? Share your ideas in the comments section!

Prince William & Kate's Royal Sandringham Christmas Service

Having opted to skip a planned ski trip to stay home over the holidays, Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, joined fellow British Royals for an early Christmas Day church service in King's Lynn, England on Sunday (December 25).

The couple was joined by Prince Harry, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Charles, Prince of Wales, Prince Andrew, Duke of York and Princess Eugenie, as the well-dressed group walked alongside one another upon exiting Sandringham Church.

While the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh traditionally lead the royals in attending the service, this year took a turn from the norm due to the fact that Prince Philip spent Christmas Eve in Papworth Hospital after having cardiac surgery to fit a stent in his coronary artery.

As for Will and Kate's decision to forego their previously scheduled ski getaway, a source told press, "The palace thinks it would send a bad message to be away during this time."

How does Lady Gaga feel about making the short list for the Best Original Song race at the Oscars? Well, she's pretty excited.

"Just heard my duet 'Hello, Hello' with Elton [John] is up for nomination at the Oscars! 'Gnomeo & Juliet' is such a beautiful film," she wrote on Twitter. "I'm so happy!!"

On Monday, it was announced that the Gaga/Elton duet is one of the 39 tracks vying for a nomination. will.i.am's "Rio" track, "Hot Wings," Mary J. Blige's "The Living Proof" from "The Help," and Zooey Deschanel's "Winnie the Pooh" track, "So Long," along with multiple tracks from "The Muppets," are also in the running. The final nominations will be announced January 24, and the awards show is slated to take place February 26 at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles.

Gaga is celebrating her latest achievement in Japan, where she will spend the holidays. "Well, I'll be in Japan right up until Christmas Day," she recently told MTV News. "So I'll be eating with all my Japanese Little Monsters. I like shabu shabu [a type of Japanese hotpot]."

Since touching down, Mother Monster has been keeping her fans up-to-date on what she's been up to on Twitter. "Sipping tea in Japan with Haus. Feeling so grateful," she wrote. "We sold about 1 million albums a month worldwide since the release of BORN THIS WAY."

The busy holiday season caps off an even busier year for Lady Gaga, who happened to be MTV News' Top Newsmaker of 2011. She tirelessly released singles, videos, personas and a chart-topping album (Born This Way) and scooped up awards at seemingly every show from the Grammys to the VMAs. She was also #5 on our list of Best Artists of 2011, and her disco empowerment track "Born This Way" snagged the #5 spot on the Best Songs of 2011 list as well.

Happy birthday, Britney Spears!

The pop superstar celebrates her 30th b-day on Friday (December 2), and in addition to counting down her most iconic clips during the fan-voted Britney Spears Tournament: 30 Videos for 30 Years, MTV News also got some celebrity pals and Brit's most famous fans to wish the princess of pop a very happy birthday.

"Yo, Britney, happy birthday!" Cobra Starship frontman Gabe Saporta said. "You're still a babe at 30!"

Jason Derülo noted the singer's influence on pop culture. "Happy birthday, Britney!" he said. "Loved watching you growing up. You made a difference in music, and you made a difference in my life."

Wilmer Valderrama mirrored Derülo's comments about Spears' unwavering pop-star status. "If there's someone that influenced a generation in every aspect of the word, I'd say it's Britney Spears," he said. "Happy birthday, sweetheart!"

"Happy birthday, Britney!" Kris Allen said. "Happy 30th! That's awesome!"

Heidi Klum recalled one of Spears' most memorable opening lines: "Happy birthday! It's Britney, bitch, always!"

Britney's legacy includes hits like "Toxic," "I'm a Slave 4 U," " ... Baby One More Time" and "Till The World Ends" — to name just a few — and 13-year-old "Modern Family" star Ariel Winter has been there all along. "Happy birthday, Britney! I love your music. I've been a fan forever. You're amazing."

Nick Cannon joked, "Britney, you're 30, girl. I see. You get your grown woman on!"

"Jersey Shore" star Ronnie had this message: "What's up, Britney? God bless you. You're doing great. Happy 30th birthday!"

"Shore" co-star and sometimes Femme Fatale tourmate Pauly D had this Twitter message for Brit: "Happy Birthday To My Girl @britneyspears !!!" he wrote. "I Luv Birthdays !!!"

But the Twitter love didn't end there: Justin Bieber RSVP'd to the Britney birthday party with this tweet: "Happy birthday shoutout to my friend @britneyspears."

"Sendin b-day love to @britneyspears :) cheers to another great year!!!" Miley Cyrus tweeted. "Let's make @britneyspears day & show some love! Let's trend #HappyBdayBritney."

Ellen DeGeneres had a funny tweet for Spears on her birthday: "I can't believe Britney is turning thritney. I mean thirty. Happy birthday @BritneySpears!"

Share your birthday wishes for Britney in the comments below!.

Christopher Nolan Unveils 'Dark Knight Rises' Prologue

A lucky audience got a glimpse at director's nearly seven-minute clip, in which Bane proves as fearsome as Batman fans have hoped.

LOS ANGELES — If you happened to be in or around the IMAX theater at Universal City Walk Thursday night, there's a decent chance you may have been privy to the collective fangasm (some shock and awe) generated by the lucky audience invited to screen the prologue for Christopher Nolan's third Batman movie, "The Dark Knight Rises."

Nolan was on hand himself to introduce the nearly seven-minute clip, which he described as, basically, the opening sequence, with a few out-of-order bonus shots thrown in at the end. The director also emphasized his love for IMAX technology, explaining that even though it was probably developed before he was born, it is "far and away the best imaging format created," and it's one that allows fans to experience the grandeur of old Hollywood films, which Nolan said is "slowly being chipped away." At the special screening, he encouraged fans to seek out official IMAX screens for a fully immersive experience when "Rises" opens next summer, but not to inquire about the plot of the film.

"I've barely started to edit, so don't ask me about the ending," he joked just before the lights in the theater dimmed.

Check out "The Dark Knight Rises" Viral Survival Guide!

In the interest of preserving the mystery of the movie, Warner Bros. politely asked journalists in attendance to refrain from giving blow-by-blow reactions, a request MTV News is happy to heed. What we can say is that the action in the opening sequence occurs mostly on a plane and that it features several high-flying, mind-blowing special effects of the practical, not the CG, variety. The sequence seems to pick up right where "The Dark Knight" leaves off — Gotham District Attorney Harvey Dent's funeral — and, most important, features one of the more memorable character introductions we've seen of late as viewers got the first look at Tom Hardy in action as Bane, complete with creepy leather face mask.

There are government agents, military personnel and civilians involved in the setup, but it's all eyes on Bane. And if what we see him say and do in the first few minutes is representative of his villainous arc in the full-length feature, it's clear that Nolan is venturing into more ominous territory in "Rises." Where Heath Ledger's unforgettable Joker was dark, twisted and almost whimsically crazy, Hardy's Bane is a horrific, maniacal force. That's apparent whenever the camera locks onto his eyes or when he speaks for the first time, revealing a garbled, aggressive German accent. Bane will no doubt prove a formidable force to be reckoned with, and we can't help but anticipate his first meeting with Batman.

Speaking of Batman, the caped crusader, played of course by Christian Bale, makes his first appearance in a few quick clips at the very end, along with new additions Catwoman/Selina Kyle (Anne Hathaway) and cop John Blake (Joseph Gordon-Levitt).

Check out everything we've got on "The Dark Knight Rises."

Lady Gaga's 'Marry The Night' Video: Dance Therapy

In the nearly 14-minute-long clip, Gaga dances through her emotions on her way to fame.
By Jocelyn Vena

Clocking in at nearly 14 minutes, Lady Gaga's "Marry the Night" video, directed by the Mother Monster herself, is a music video within a short film.

Gaga teased earlier that the clip would be about the worst day of her life, and it certainly touches on some nefarious stuff. With references to everything from "Fame" and "Black Swan" to "The Bell Jar," the video is a sweeping look into Gaga's psyche.

The video opens with Gaga being rolled through a clinic. As her monologue wraps up, a pale, bruised Gaga is in bed, being cared for by the same nurse who delivered her, still recovering from an unknown procedure (the only clue to what surgery Gaga may have gotten is when she's told "no intimacy for two weeks"). With tears streaming down her face, Gaga tells the nurse (who refers to her as "morphine princess"), "I'm gonna be a star. You know why? Because I have nothing left to lose."

As the camera pulls back, the other patients and nurses in the room go about their lives and a piano plays while a mysterious laugh acts as the soundtrack to the dramatic, poignant scene.

Next, the viewer is taken to the stage, where a glamorous ballerina Gaga is performing. Then, she's back at her apartment, being tucked into bed by a long-haired man. Gaga lies topless in her apartment and gets a call from her director, arguing, "But, I'm an artist. What do you mean give up?"

She begins destroying her apartment manically. Next, she's dying her hair and singing the opening lines of "Marry the Night" acoustically. "You may say I lost everything," Gaga says in a voice-over, as she's seen decked out in a bedazzled denim outfit and heels, joking, "But I still had my BeDazzler and I had a lot of patches, shiny ones from M&J Trimming, so I wreaked havoc on some old denim. And I did what any girl would do — I did it all over again." (It should be noted that Gaga is very reminiscent of "Desperately Seeking Susan"-era Madonna in this scene.)

Next, a full moon shines down on Gaga, who is on the hood of a car wearing all-black pleather. She's sliding into the car using the sunroof when the song finally kicks in at about nine minutes in. The car explodes and Gaga is outside proudly claiming that she'll marry the night as she dances around.

Now she's at a dance studio, doing her best "Fame" routine, rolling around and stretching, clearly reinventing herself from the ballerina she once was to a pop backup dancer.

As she dances in the studio and on the street, the video also cuts to Gaga naked in a bathtub at her apartment. The video focuses the most on Gaga's dancing, with a majority of the actual music-video portion featuring several big dance numbers. As she dances on the street, the moments leading up to her breakdown are played out: She's fighting, she's setting cars on fire, she's naked, she's dancing. As the video comes to a close, a message handwritten on Gaga's hand is revealed, reading, "Interscope Records; Hollywood, CA; 4 p.m."

Whatever Gaga did to reinvent herself seemed to work. She became a pop star. The final shot is Gaga, decked out on couture, surrounded by flames in a spacey outfit before it all goes black.

"Marry the Night" is the latest single from Gaga's Grammy-nominated Born This Way album. It was filmed in New York City in October and marks the first time Gaga has directed a video solo. While the clip is an homage to her pre-fame roots, the song is also a tribute to the Big Apple.

What did you think of Gaga's latest? Let us know in the comments!

'Hunger Games' Composer Leaves Film

Danny Elfman reportedly has scheduling issues as he's currently also working on 'Dark Shadows' and 'Men in Black 3.'
By Kevin P. Sullivan

Danny Elfman, the man behind the iconic scores for most of Tim Burton's films, may not be heading to Panem.

The Academy Award-nominated composer has reportedly dropped out of "The Hunger Games," according to Variety. Elfman is said to have left the production for scheduling reasons, as he is currently working on the music for "Dark Shadows," and "Men in Black 3."

Lionsgate declined to comment, but a source close to the production confirmed Elfman's departure due to scheduling conflict with MTV News.

James Newton Howard, the composer responsible for dozens of famous scores, including "Batman Begins," has reportedly taken the reins from Elfman in what was described as a smooth transition. The change will have no effect on the post-production and release schedules for the film. Newton Howard has scored an impressive eight Academy Award nominations over the years for films that include "Defiance, "Michael Clayton" and "The Village."

Elfman was set to collaborate on the adaptation of Suzanne Collins' young-adult novel with T-Bone Burnett, the songwriter who won an Oscar for his work on 2009's "Crazy Heart." Burnett will reportedly remain on the production as the film's executive music producer. Burnett had previously raved to MTV News about working with Elfman on the project, telling us in August of his collaborator, "He's got an incredible space he's put together. It's the most incredible studio I've ever seen and he's got drums and marimbas and a cimbalom — just crazy instruments everywhere. We're just going to go over there and rock out. I think we're just going to play together. We're going to do it together."

Howard, meanwhile, has more than a full plate of upcoming projects. Among his future musical endeavors are two of next year's biggest films: "Snow White and the Huntsman" and "The Bourne Legacy."

"The Hunger Games" is set for release on March 23, 2012, and stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth, with Gary Ross directing.

Drake, Adele And More: The 20 Best Albums Of 2011

From Girls to Beyoncé (and just about everyone in between), Bigger Than the Sound takes a look at the year's best albums.
By James Montgomery

Drake
Photo: Getty Images

In 2011, we all seemingly discovered dubstep and learned how to pronounce "Bon Iver." We marveled at the success of Adele, Katy Perry and Rihanna, took the leap with Beyoncé and got royal with Jay-Z and Kanye. We said hello to bright new stars like Frank Ocean and the Weeknd and watched former breakouts Florence Welch and Drake take the next steps in their careers. Oh, and pretty much all of us bought Lady Gaga's Born This Way, or at least debated its pricing schemes.

Yes, it's been a pretty eventful 12 months, and now, it's time to take a look back with my picks for the Best Albums of 2011. Rock, hip-hop, pop and electronic records — from artists big and small — that managed to stick with me through the entire year. Looking at it now, there are at least a half-dozen other albums I could've included — it really was that big of a year.

What's your favorite album of 2011? Tell us on Facebook!

That said, I'm sure I left a few off my list, so I'm counting on you to remind me of anything I might have missed. Let me know in the comments below, and now, let's get right to my Best of 2011 list. These are my favorite albums, from a fascinating year in music.

20. Beyoncé, 4
An artfully anachronistic album — in that it takes its cues from Fela Kuti and Earth, Wind and Fire instead of, you know, David Guetta — it's little wonder 4 confounded a large portion of the record-buying public when it was released this summer. But given time, most (myself included) have come to love its classy flourishes and classically influenced roots. From big-boned ballads to weirdo world-music jams, 4 is clearly the disc on which Beyoncé makes her bid for artistic credibility. Sadly, it just took us all a while to realize it.

James Reacts To This Year's Grammy Shocks and Snubs

19. Gil Scott-Heron and Jamie XX, We're New Here
The late Scott-Heron's final album gets reworked by Jamie Smith (avowed superfan and beatmaker behind the XX), who deftly combines the poet's gravelly ruminations with cutting-edge electro flourishes, yet never lets the latter outshine the former. And in that regard, We're New Here stands apart from most remix albums, in that it is very much a labor of love. Released in February, it fittingly took on new life when Drake made its final track — "I'll Take Care Of U" — the centerpiece of his Take Care disc.

18. Rihanna, Talk That Talk
Depending on your perspective, it's either "the best pop album of the year" or maybe "the dirtiest 'pop' album since Madonna's Erotica," though given some time, perhaps it's best to just call TTT Rihanna's best album, a streamlined, over-sexed, oft-adventurous thing that pushes everything to the limit. And while you can get caught up in the adjectives, the real proof of TTT's power lies in its ability to make you move, endlessly, effortlessly, excitedly so. That's what pop albums are supposed to do, after all.

17. Gospel Music, How to Get to Heaven From Jacksonville, FL
Pocket-size pop from Owen Holmes, current (former?) member of Black Kids, whose deep croon recalls the likes of Calvin Johnson (not Megatron) and Stephin Merritt and whose erudition brings to mind Jarvis Cocker. High praise, but when the music comes this effortlessly (check "This Town Doesn't Have Enough Bars for Both of Us" or "Let's Run" for proof) and the lyrics are this heartbreakingly hilarious ("He pores over Poe, peruses Proust/ While waiting for sauce to reduce/ Buys only seasonal produce/ I don't know what you see in him"), well, the dude's sort of earned it, really. Quite possibly the year's most underrated album.

16. Black Keys, El Camino
On the follow-up to their breakout Brothers, the Black Keys go full-throttle, tearing through 11 hard-riffing, deep-boogying tracks in something like 38 minutes. All handclaps and talk-box guitar solos, El Camino rattles and chugs along like the titular Chevy and, on tracks like "Lonely Boy," "Money Maker" and "Little Black Submarines," manages to get positively brilliant too — in a George Thorogood-meets-the Cramps kind of way, of course.

15. Florence and the Machine, Ceremonials
Florence Welch possesses a voice that can shatter glass, shift tectonic plates and quite possibly alter the very fabric of time, so it sort of makes sense that, on Ceremonials, producer Paul Epworth provides her with the appropriate backing tracks. This is an unapologetically massive album in just about every conceivable way, from the soaring heights of "Shake It Out" and "No Light, No Light" to the delving depths of "Only If for the Night" and "What the Water Gave Me," which is to say it fits Florence like a glove. Or high-end Givenchy couture.

14. The Weeknd, House of Balloons and Thursday
Mysterious, majestically paced R&B from Canadian Abel Tesfaye, who rode his pair of (free) releases to breakout success. Both Balloons and Thursday tell the trope of the troubled loverman, but rarely are matters of the heart played out as honestly as they are here. An endless cycle of druggy nights, desperate flings and depressed dawns, Tesfaye makes no apologies, and with his two albums of masterful murk, he's inadvertently created mood music for increasingly moody times.

13. Fleet Foxes, Helplessness Blues
"So now, I'm older/ Than my mother and father/ When they had their daughter/ Now what does that say about me?" That's how Fleet Foxes frontman Sam Pecknold opens the band's sophomore effort, and rarely does he relent from those notions. For an album so rich in wide-screen vocal harmonies and warm, finger-picked acoustics, Blues is far from atmospheric — in fact, it's downright analytical. Pecknold roots through problems that are very real, and that balance is key to the album's strength. Because for a band that so indulges in the space of the studio, this is an album that is rarely, if ever, self-indulgent.

12. Frank Ocean, Nostalgia, Ultra
The year's most self-assured debut, courtesy of the only Odd Future member who seems to actually shrink from the spotlight. Like the title implies, Nostalgia is an album that longs for the past, both sonically — sampling Radiohead, Coldplay and the Eagles — and thematically, as Ocean tills through broken relationships and lost associates. The results are unflinchingly, almost unassumingly great, and wherever Ocean goes from here, I'll be sure to follow.

11. The War on Drugs, Slave Ambient
Here's a fascinating little album, one that pulls just as readily from Bruce Springsteen's and Tom Petty's wide-eyed-yet-wincing Americana as it does Sonic Youth's and Spacemen 3's hazy dirges. Part road record, part barroom soundtrack, it's a compelling — and slightly confounding — listen, pairing jangly guitars with sleepy, bedheaded sonic sections, and frontman Adam Granduciel is frequently a man without a home, keening about freeways and harbors and great open expanses. In that regard, perhaps this is a record less about the final destination as it is the trip itself — a somnambulant trek in which the lines between awake and dreaming are constantly shifting.

10. Lady Gaga, Born This Way
When it was first released, it wasn't a stretch to call BTW the year's most anticipated album, and though the debate may rage about whether it lived up to the hype, you cannot deny that Gaga put everything into it. From the piston-pumping electronics of "Marry the Night" and the tarantula tango of "Americano" to the twitching, "Transformers"-huge techno of "Heavy Metal Lover" and the epic balladry of "Yoü and I" and "The Edge of Glory," this truly is an effort that tries very hard to be everything to everyone. And, in the process, Gaga has created something entirely new. BTW is quite possibly the first multi-national, multi-hyphenate, multi-sexual pop album of our time. And sure, it's probably too long, but that's sort of the point, isn't it? Gaga only operates on the hugest of stages, and BTW is her grandest mission statement to date. And if she didn't please everyone, you can't say she didn't try.

9. Portugal. The Man, In the Mountain, In the Cloud
It is quite possible to argue Portugal. The Man may be the new Flaming Lips, especially if you've ever caught them live (and since the Lips seem content to simply embed songs inside human skulls these days). They are both from spots firmly off the musical map (Wasilla, Alaska, and Oklahoma City, respectively); they both indulge in frazzled, psych-tinged pop; and both seem hell-bent on doing things their way, no matter what the consequences. And if all that logic holds, then Cloud is either their Hit to Death in the Future Head (the one before they had the hit) or their Clouds Taste Metallic (the one before they got universal acclaim). On their major-label debut, Portugal got proggy, arty and unapologetically weird, and the disc sold about as well as you'd expect. Still, there's true genius in tracks like "So American," "Senseless" and "Sleep Forever," and while they've still got, like, two decades to go before they can match the Lips in terms of longevity, consider this the next step on their voyage.

8. Jay-Z and Kanye West, Watch the Throne
The year's highest-profile collaboration didn't exactly play against type — except for the fact that, unlike most other meetings-of-the-egos, it actually ended up being really good. And that's because, despite all the flash surrounding it (the globe-trotting recording sessions, the Riccardo Tisci-designed cover, the video where they sawed the top off a Maybach) and all the boasts contained within it, WTT is very much an album that grapples equally with big themes — success, race, responsibilities, public perception — and, you know, big watches. And then, of course, there's the incredibly odd "N---as in Paris," surely the first rap song to give equal face time to Will Ferrell. A weird, wonderful, whirling album — the kind that, sadly, they don't make all that often, mostly because it's impossible to do so.

7. Bon Iver, Bon Iver
Justin Vernon has done the impossible: follow up a beloved, much-mythologized debut album (you know, the one that was recorded in a cabin) with a record that's just as good — if not better. He's always been one for atmospheres, but never before have those atmospheres been so dense — or so compelling. Here, he creates a singular, breathless world, building it with layers of echoing instrumentation and his own ghostly falsetto. There are moments where the sun shines through the cracks — a horn crescendo, a silvery sliver of bell — but for the most part, Bon Iver is a mesmerizing trip through a dewy dreamscape. And in that regard, it's a momentous achievement (one made even more momentous by Vernon's recent Grammy nominations), even if the last song does sound like Bruce Hornsby.

6. PJ Harvey, Let England Shake
The iconic Brit shape-shifts with seemingly every record she releases, and on Shake, she's reborn as an old-fashioned protest singer (with a newfound upper register too). The sad thing is, the subjects she's singing about — conflict, bloodshed, man's unending cycle of self-immolation — are just as timely now as they were 50 years ago. Through it all, Harvey weaves a partial history of her oft-troubled homeland, and does so with haunting, harrowing specificity: the quivering flesh of the dead, the fog rolling over the bones of deceased sea captains, the tread of tanks plowing the countryside. That she manages to do so without ever gnarling into full-on outrage is a testament to both her skill as an observer of the human condition and her love of England, which is perhaps the most impressive feat of all on an album brimming with them.

5. The Horrors, Skying
Is there a band with a more inexplicable career arc than the Horrors? They started off as spooky-ooky figureheads of London's goth-garage scene (or whatever you want to call it), reimagined themselves as psych disciples on 2009's Primary Colours and, finally, on the wildly emotive Skying, they've emerged as one of the U.K.'s best rock acts. It's a rhetorical question — there is no band quite like them, and their aptly named latest captures them at the height of their abilities. Skying is a bold, big, decidedly Technicolor affair, packed with synth peaks and piles of echoing guitars, and much like its title implies, it positively soars. The great moments abound, though it's on lengthy tracks like "Moving Further Away" and "Oceans Burning" — when they break through the clouds and let the daylight pour in — that they really, truly shine in ways no one thought imaginable.

4. F---ed Up, David Comes to Life
A wrecking-ball sorta rock opera courtesy of Toronto's hardest-working (and, most likely, only) six-piece punk collective, David Comes to Life tells the story of a downtrodden factory worker who may have killed his true love. I think. Because, along the way, there's also betrayal, heartache, bomb blasts, fisticuffs and a whole lot of plot-twisting shifts in narration too. Of course, the story behind the album is largely unimportant (if you want to keep score at home, here's a handy guide), especially when the album itself hits so hard. The (multi-multi-multi-)tracked guitars squeal and chug for days, and frontman Pink Eyes' screams are so visceral you can practically feel his blood welling up in your headphones. It's an ambitious, ringing, raging success, the kind of record you'll listen to over and over again, either to try and follow the plotline or just get pummeled by the sheer might of the thing. Either way, you'll enjoy yourself.

3. Drake, Take Care
What was that line Drake dropped a few years back? "Last name ever, first name greatest?" Right. Well, here's the proof that he wasn't lying. Take Care is his masterpiece of mope, an agoraphobically artistic exploration of late-night excesses and early morning regrets, of being smothered by fame and troubled by success, of drunken phone calls and drugged-out epiphanies. You can chalk it up to him being "emo," but I prefer to think of it as him just being honest, unafraid to play the villain or point out his own shortcomings. And that's what makes this album so wonderful: It is very much about losing contact, fracturing relationships and attempting to put the pieces back together again. Much like Kanye's My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy (or 808s & Heartbreak), on Take Care, Drake and producer Noah "40" Shebib craft an insular, downright claustrophobic world, one fraught with perils both real and imagined. Though, when your life is as fantastically surreal as Drake's, it's often difficult to tell the difference — much to his dismay, and our benefit.

2. Adele, 21
It's nice when the year's best-selling album also ends up being one of the flat-out best, but, in the case of Adele's 21, we should have seen it coming. After all, she wowed critics and fans with her debut, but this time, well, she's stumbled onto something else entirely. She created a classy, classic album that moved units the old-fashioned way: namely, on the strength of some hits and her prodigious pipes. On 21, she's also grown as an artist, become a singer capable of both tremendous power (like on the smash "Rolling in the Deep") and terrifying tenderness too (like on the smashing "Someone Like You"). A roiling collection of breakup ballads, revenge fantasies, heartbreaking honesty and even a little humor, there truly was no other album quite like 21 released this year. It's a throwback in every way, though it recalls nothing else so closely as it does the heady times when great albums were also great-selling albums. Hopefully, it's a sign of things to come.

1. Girls, Father, Son, Holy Ghost
In a year when dance music slithered its way onto the top 40 and dudes like Skrillex pick up Best New Artist Grammy nods, I found solace in the bristling, brokenhearted Father, Son, Holy Ghost, a masterful collection of retro-leaning rock (Elvis Costello, Pink Floyd, the Beach Boys) that rang true above everything else. That's mostly because it is an undeniably real album, both sonically (the surging guitars and crashing drums that open "Honey Bunny," the pealing organ that closes "Jamie Marie") and spiritually pining over lost loves and the emptiness of sex. And on two epic, excellent tracks — "Vomit" and "Forgiveness" — songwriter Christopher Owens lets his sadness and frustrations boil over, resulting in two of the most visceral moments of the year. It's a chilling, hair-raising ride, a heartbreaking listen that channels genuine emotions; full of sadness, self-loathing and real anger, it doesn't pull any punches, and somewhere in that morass, it also stumbles across true beauty too. In a time when everyone's got a DJ and people continue to sing like robots from the 23rd century, I'll take Father, Son, Holy Ghost's unflinching realness any day. After all, sadness is a virtue too.

Dr. Arnold Klein Under Investigation For Michael Jackson Drug Supplying

Dr. Conrad Murray was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in Michael Jackson's death, but the late singer's former dermatologist, Dr. Arnold Klein is under investigation by the Medical Board of California for his past treatment of his famous patient.

Klein has been accused - by Murray and others - of fueling MJ's addiction to prescription painkillers, and has been subpoenaed by the Board for questioning.

He just posted a letter on Facebook, apparently sent from his ex-lawyer, showing that officials are probing allegations that Klein over-prescribed Demerol.

Arnold Klein Pic

The Board reportedly wants to grill Klein about the possibility that he self-prescribed narcotics, used false names on narcotics prescriptions, illegally handed out samples of dangerous drugs to his famous patients such as Michael Jackson.

By doing so, Klein, who has multiple sclerosis, may have committed gross negligence.

Also rumored to be the biological father of Prince and Paris Jackson, Klein has always strongly denied any wrongdoing and is not accused of any criminal conduct.

Time will tell if that changes and/or if the board takes any disciplinary action.

'Breaking Dawn' Passes $500 Million Mark Worldwide

Movie hits half-billion mark in less than two weeks.
By Gil Kaufman

"The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn -- Part 1"
looks to dominate the box office for a good long time. After two weeks atop
the list of top-grossing movies, the penultimate film in the vampires and werewolves epic has already raked in more than $508 million worldwide.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie is the ninth film this year to push past the half-billion mark globally, hitting the mark in just 12 days of release. So far, the movie has grossed $223.4 million in North America and $285 million internationally, for a grand total of $508.4 million.

"We couldn't be more pleased with the success of this film and a franchise that the fans have continued to support over the past several years," said Summit Entertainment co-chairmen Rob Friedman and Patrick Wachsberger in a statement. "Thank you to all involved with the films from the actors, filmmakers and Stephenie Meyer to the most important group of all, the global fan base that continues to drive a desire for more Edward, Jacob and Bella."

MTV News asked experts how long this domination can go on, especially since the only competition this weekend is the NC-17-rated full-frontal indie flick "Shame."

"It'll be close between ['Breaking Dawn - Part 1'] and 'The Muppets,' because ['The Muppets'] has much better word of mouth," said Boxoffice.com's Phil Contrino, noting that it was too soon to say which would come out on top. He also predicted that the movie should finish its domestic run in the $300 million range and stay near the top until such holiday blockbusters as "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" and "Mission Impossible -- Ghost Protocol" on December 21.

"The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2" is scheduled to hit U.S. theaters on November 16, 2012.

Britney Spears And Howie D Have 'Grown Up' Together

Now, Brit is taking the Backstreet Boy on tour with her in South America.
By Jocelyn Vena

Britney Spears may be the leading lady on the Femme Fatale Tour, but that doesn't mean she doesn't want to bring some guys along for the ride.

Next up, Backstreet Boy Howie D is slated to hit the road with Spears, following in the footsteps of DJ Pauly D and Joe Jonas. The South American tour dates — which kick off November 20, days after Howie releases his solo album Back to Me — were an enticing offer to the pop singer.

"I embraced it with open arms," he told MTV News of the trek, which ends November 28. "She's such a great, talented person. We've known each other for many, many years."

He isn't lying: Howie and Britney grew up together in the industry, with the Backstreet Boys and Spears two of the figureheads of the late-'90s pop revival. Howie said they're rooted in the same place, which will lend itself nicely to touring together.

"We kind of came out of the same camp, out of the Orlando pop scene with us and 'NSYNC and Britney," he recalled. "I feel like we've all grown together and have very similar, parallel lives with us and our music, [with] certain moments being very, very hot, certain moments not, and just riding the wave up and down as it's going. Even [with our] personal lives, having families, having kids. I have a huge respect for her, not only as an artist, but as a person. It's good to be around people you've known and people you've grown up with."

So what keeps people coming back for more from the likes of Howie and Britney? He has a theory: "It's a test of good music being out there," he said. "We really take pride in making good records, timeless records, and being true to our craft and trying to give our fans what they want ... trying to constantly take each record to the next level, push the envelope."

Do you want Howie to tour with Britney in the States? Let us know in the comments!

'Breaking Dawn' Director Gave Fans 'A Lot' Of Sex

Bill Condon tells MTV News he tried 'to give people the experience they had reading the book' in 'Part 1.'
By Terri Schwartz, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

Director Bill Condon on the set of "Twilight: Breaking Dawn - Part 1" with Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson

"Breaking Dawn - Part 1" features two of the most hotly anticipated moments in the entire "Twilight Saga." First, lovebirds Bella Swan and Edward Cullen finally get it on. And later, in a far less tender scene, Bella endures a pretty gory birth to give life to her half-human, half-vampire daughter, Renesmee.

Bill Condon knew all along that those two scenes were pivotal moments that he would need to get right onscreen. But keeping in mind the PG-13 rating the studio wanted to preserve, the director also knew that he had to tackle those intense sequences without going too far over the line. When MTV News caught up with Condon, he predicted that fans will be pleased with the final product (especially the sex scene), which hit theaters on Friday (November 18).

As in the novel, the honeymoon scene plays out mostly through Bella remembering the passionate night the morning after, which allowed Condon to show the event in several parts.

"I think when you see the movie you'll see, you think you get it and then you get more of it and then you get more of it, which I think was part of the intention because it's such a big thing — everyone's been waiting for it," he said. "We just wanted to make sure you got a lot of it when you got it."

And Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart were good sports about the whole process, Condon said, though he admitted filming the steamy section got "kind of clinical." The scene was carefully choreographed but the two lead actors were "so cool about it."

The birthing sequence, which easily could have pushed the film to an "R" rating, proved similarly challenging. Condon wanted to stay as true as possible to Stephenie Meyer's depiction but he knew he couldn't be too graphic. "You want to give people the experience they had reading the book, and that was incredibly powerful, the way Stephenie described it.

"You can't show everything, obviously, we have a [PG-13] rated movie," he said. "But we did it through the point of view of Bella and what she can see as she's giving birth. I think your imagination fills in a lot of that."

Lady Gaga To Be Honored As LGBT 'Hero'

Trevor Project will present singer with their Hero Award at December event.

Lady Gaga has never been shy about her feelings for the LGBT community — she's perhaps the biggest and most A-list advocate for LGBT youth. Now her work with the community is earning her some recognition.

At this year's annual Trevor Live event, the singer will be honored by the Trevor Project, a nonprofit organization that offers suicide-prevention services to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youth. Gaga will receive the Trevor Hero Award, Press Party reports. The organization will also recognize Google Inc. with the Trevor 2020 Award.

"Our young people are at the center of a health crisis, and vocal leaders like Lady Gaga and technology leaders like Google Inc. have stepped up to help change our culture," David McFarland, interim executive director and CEO of the Trevor Project, said in a statement.

"Our honorees are working with the Trevor Project to make a better today and a brighter tomorrow for youth. We are proud to honor Lady Gaga with the Trevor Hero Award and Google Inc. with the Trevor 2020 award for their work to help young people express their true selves with pride."

Gaga and her mother recently started the Born This Way Foundation, which will focus on "youth empowerment and equality by addressing issues like self-confidence, well-being, anti-bullying, mentoring and career development and will utilize digital mobilization as one of the means to create positive change."

The Trevor party is set to go down on December 4 at the Hollywood Palladium. Gaga won't be the only A-lister on hand at the big show.

Fergie, Mary J. Blige, Miley Cyrus, Gleeks Chris Colfer and Darren Criss, Julianne Hough and "True Blood" star Joe Manganiello are just a few of the stars slated to appear. Criss made headlines last year when he was joined onstage by Katy Perry at the event. The two performed her track "Teenage Dream," which he had famously covered on "Glee."

'Hunger Games' Has 'Best Fans,' Josh Hutcherson Says

'I'm really excited for them to see it,' actor tells MTV News.
By Kara Warner

It's been an exciting couple of weeks for "Hunger Games" fans, what with new posters to analyze, star Josh Hutcherson talking about how he felt "so right" for the role and of course, the debut of the film's first full-length trailer.

And now we have more from our exclusive interview with Hutcherson, in which we discuss a certain boy on fire and how thankful he is for the "Hunger Games" fans.

MTV: What can you tell us about that costume in the arena?

Josh Hutcherson: The costumes in the arena are very practical, which they had to be, not only for the purpose of the characters but also for us as actors because sometimes it was 95 degrees in the forest, and you're running around and you want to make sure you're wearing the right clothes and the appropriate attire and the right kind of shoes and everything. So we made it very real.

MTV: What about the one that is on fire?

Hutcherson: The one that's on fire, I don't want to say anything about that yet, you'll have to wait for it. It's very cool, I promise you. It's very cool.

MTV: Have you been following any of the fan fervor surrounding the film?

Hutcherson: Obviously the fans are crazy about it, which I'm really excited for them to see it. But for me, I stay away from a lot of that stuff, just because I don't really look at it all that much. But I hear some things people are saying, and it's pretty cool. It's exciting to hear people are that interested in something you're doing, so it's a little nerve-racking, but I'm onboard. The fans for "The Hunger Games," they're die-hard. They're the best fans in the world so I'm really excited for them to see the movie.

'Glee' Season Finale Exclusive: Listen To 'Yeah!' Here

An a cappella girl group covers Usher's hit for Nationals in next week's episode.
By Aly Semigran

During this week's episode of "Glee", the gang from New Directions took a big risk when they decided they would compete in Nationals by singing their own original songs. Well, the stakes just got a little higher.

MTV News has an exclusive first listen to one of the rival groups who will go up against the McKinley High glee club in New York City during next Tuesday's (May 24) big season two finale. In the upcoming episode, an all-female a cappella group sings Usher's 2004 club and radio smash "Yeah!," which may have the Nationals judges saying just that.

Singers replace synthesizers for the four-note melody that repeats throughout the song, and lead vocalists RaVaughn Brown and Missi Hale match the high energy that Usher, Lil Jon and Ludacris brought to the track.

Granted, a few things have been tweaked in the version for the tween-friendly show, including the length (the original is over four minutes long, while the "Glee" version comes in at three and a half minutes) and the tune's instructions to "Take that and rewind it back ... got the rhythm make ya booty go."

Also, instead of Ludacris' verse, "We want a lady in the street/ And a freak in the bed," one girl sings, "You know you want a kiss on the lips, old red." The line, "Ludacris fill cups like double D's" has also been cut from the song.

But, it's not all PG. At one point in the girls' rendition of the track, they page homage to Lil Jon's crunk hit "Get Low," singing, "From the windows to the walls" and even Mystikal's booty-happy single "Shake Ya Ass," when they urge, "Show me whatcha' workin' with."

At the 2005 Grammy Awards, the power trio of Usher, Lil Jon and Ludacris won the Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for "Yeah!" But, will the song bring the same sort of fortune to this girl group at Nationals? Or will the glory all belong to New Directions this time? Gleeks will still have to wait a few more days to find out.

The "Glee" season finale airs Tuesday at 9 p.m. on Fox, while "Glee": The Music, Volume 6, including the three new original songs "Light Up the World," "Pretending" and "As Long as You're There," will be available on Monday.

What do you think of this a cappella group's version of "Yeah!"? Let us know in the comments section below!
