Beyonce Strips Down For '1+1' Video

B gets sexy and artistic in self-directed clip.
By Rob Markman

She may not know much about algebra, but when it comes to music videos, Beyoncé's expertise is unmatched.

On Thursday (August 25), Queen B premiered the video for her power ballad "1+1" on E!, just days before her performance at MTV's 2011 VMAs. The clip -- which was directed by Beyoncé, Laurent Briet and Ed Burke -- is the third from her 4 LP and the first in a series of story-driven videos from the album.

As the acoustic guitar strings are plucked and black screen fades in, Beyoncé comes into focus. She stands with blond hair draped just below her exposed shoulders. The honey-dipped diva glistens with a top coat of glitter all over her body. Looking as sexy as ever, turning her head from right to left with her eyes fixed off-camera, the sultry singer starts her vocal seduction. "If I ain't got nothin', I got you," she belts out.

Caressing herself, the former Destiny's Child siren sexes it up for the camera as she starts to disrobe, pulling off the spaghetti straps from her champagne-colored dress. Things get even hotter when the bare-bodied B coyly plays in a cascading waterfall, pushing her lips out just far enough to get wet.

The video sports psychedelic light effects and symmetrical camera tricks selling sex as art. The choreography is a far cry from the standard Beyoncé dance routines, which more often than not feature high-powered steps, swaying hips and her patented bootylicious shake. Instead, B settles for ballet-style steps, moving in a leotard and long, flowing cape. Her principal love interest is nondescript, and while his muscular arms grip the singer's body before taking her through a series of dips and bends, he remains mostly in the background.

Clearly, the emotion is too much for her. Halfway through, the love-struck star begins to cry tears of joy before she begs her Romeo to make love to her on the song's vocal finale.

As far as Beyoncé videos go, "1+1" will most likely remain under the radar in comparison to the highlights in her high-budgeted reel, which includes clips like "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)" and "Crazy in Love." But much like the song, the visuals for "1+1" shouldn't be measured in terms of size, but rather in emotive presentation and subdued sexiness.

The 28th annual MTV Video Music Awards will air live Sunday, August 28, from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles at 9 p.m. ET/PT, following the Selena Gomez-hosted pre-show at 8. See the list of nominees, revisit last year's highlights and vote for Best New Artist by visiting VMA.MTV.com.

Lady Gaga VMA Performance: Jo Calderone Rants, Sings "You and I"!

Little Monsters already know Jo Calderone is Lady Gaga's alter ego. What they didn't know before last night's Video Music Awards is that the two were an item!

"My name is Jo Calderone," the 25-year-old said, showing up in drag as part of her wild, extended pre-performance monologue. "Lady Gaga? She left me!"

Fully committed to the character for several minutes, smoking a cigarette as he/she addressing the crowd, "Jo" grew more and more animated ...

Lady Gaga VMA Performance 2011

"[Lady Gaga] is f**king crazy!" he/she said. "For example, she gets out of the bed, puts on the heels. She comes out of the bathroom dripping wet and she's still got the heels on ... And what's with the hair?

"At first it was sexy, but now I'm just confused. I think it's really f**king great that she's such a star and all ... but how am I supposed to shine?"

There you go. Finally, Lady Gaga sat down and belted out a soulful rendition of "You and I." Brian May from Queen came on stage and joined her.

What did you think of her performance? Was it great to see Jo Calderone in person like that, or did the gag get old? Certainly original, right?

Susan Lucci Considering a Move Online with 'AMC'

Susan Lucci Considering a Move Online with 'AMC'

Since All My Children's cancellation earlier this year, that soap's most famous star, Susan Lucci, has been meeting with Hollywood producers and considering her next move. This week, though, it looks like she has another option: to stay right where she is.

The last episode of All My Children will air on September 23rd, but, now that ABC has licensed the show to continue online (via the production company, Prospect Park), Lucci might not necessarily have to vacate her role as Erica Kane. According to Deadline, she is weighing an offer to stay in Pine Valley!

Scheduled to premier online during the first quarter of next year, the reincarnation of AMC will have a smaller overall budget, which will mean pay cuts for many of the actors who cross over to the web. But, word on the street is that Lucci's salary would remain about the same. (How's that for star power?)

Despite what may sound like a sweet deal, it's possible that Lucci might choose to leave the series that's paid her salary since 1970. Asked about a rumored spot on Desperate Housewives, Lucci acknowledged to Access Hollywood that "there's a lot of talking going on."

And why not strike out for Wisteria Lane and beyond? Pine Valley can't keep her forever.

Britney Spears Tour Gig 'So Cool,' DJ Pauly D Raves

'I'm an act — then Nicki Minaj, then Britney Spears,' the 'Jersey Shore' star tells MTV News in disbelief.
By Christina Garibaldi

DJ Pauly D joined the Femme Fatale Tour on Monday night and got the crowd fist-pumping as one of the opening acts for Britney Spears' show. It was announced last month that the "Jersey Shore" star would be taking a break from Seaside Heights to hit the road with Brit for the remainder of her tour, and he kicked things off this week in Boston.

"It's so cool because I'm an actual act," Pauly D told MTV News a few days before Monday's tour date. "So, it's like DJ Pauly D goes on — I'm an act — then Nicki Minaj, then Britney Spears."

So how did Pauly D do in his big debut? Well, his tourmate Nicki Minaj took to Twitter after the concert and gave her rave review: "BOSTON why are u so EPIC right now?!??!!?! Like seriously???!??" Minaj tweeted. "(Pauly D KILlED it by the way!!!!)"

This is Pauly D's first time joining a major tour but he didn't think life on the road would be difficult to get used to. "I got my own tour bus now, it's all done," Pauly D said smiling. "My DJ booth is all done, it looks amazing, and I'm really excited. It's like a dream come true."

But if you're going to check out the concert, don't expect Pauly D to play any of Spears' classic songs. "A DJ should not play the artist's songs at her concert, 'cause she has to perform these songs," he told us earlier this year when he warmed up the crowd for Brit's Las Vegas show. "I'm not going to be playing any Britney before she performs; maybe after. I'll let her perform, let her shine, 'cause it's her night."

Although he won't open the show by playing her hits, the MTV star didn't rule out the possibility of joining Spears (who's a "Jersey Shore" fan!) onstage.

"Maybe, we'll see," Pauly said. "It would be really cool, though."

Will you check out Pauly D on the Femme Fatale Tour? Let us know in the comments!

Nicki Minaj, Joe Jonas Take Us Backstage On Femme Fatale Tour

'Behind the scenes, there's a lot of security, lots of salad and lots of cranberries and almonds,' Minaj jokes to MTV News.
By Jocelyn Vena

Britney Spears' Femme Fatale Tour is a glittering, over-the-top spectacle, complete with multiple costume changes, set changes, and a fleet of backup dancers and stage performers. Another major part of the tour is the other acts who are on the road with the star. MTV News caught up with tourmates Joe Jonas, Nicki Minaj and "Drop Dead Beautiful" rapper Sabi on their New Jersey tour stop, and they gave us an inside look at what it takes to get this show on the road.

"Behind the scenes, there's a lot of security, lots of salad and lots of cranberries and almonds, lots of dancers stretching," Spears' tourmate Minaj joked from her dressing room. "There's also a lady that comes every day and gives massages. She has like a massage chair and every time I go out there, she's giving some bloody bloke a massage," she teased in her signature British accent.

Brit's show isn't the only one that incorporates multimedia displays. Nicki's opening slot goes above and beyond thanks to video packages and costume changes. "Well, definitely I wanted my set to be more than an opening act 'cause, you know, I did that already," she said. "I always like to raise the bar for myself and that's what I did. I think it's important to give people what they paid for."

Sabi said that hours before the show happens, there's lots of hustle and bustle to make sure everyone is in the right state of mind. "It's crazy to see how wardrobe is rushed from one location to the next, or if there's something wrong with the shoes or there's extra shoes and dancers need massages and the catering's not here till 5 and we have to eat at 5 o'clock and everybody rushes to catering," she explained of all the hubbub."It's pretty fun and hectic back here, but it's dope."

During the show, Sabi hits the stage alongside Brit to perform their Femme Fatale track and she says that being up there in front of the sea of pop fans is "kind of hard to describe," adding that, "it's bananas. I get the biggest rush ... it's crazy.

"I've learned how she just delivers. There can be a bajillion things going on and she just delivers every time," Sabi said of Spears. "I'm learning the professionalism of it."

Jonas kicked off his time with Spears in his home state of New Jersey and said that he was stoked to be there. "[I'm] very excited right now. I can't wait," he said in his dressing room. "Getting up on the stage felt really comfortable, so I think it's gonna be really fun. Like everyone out there, I'm a fan of Britney, and it's New Jersey, so it couldn't be more perfect."

Nicki certainly has plenty of pop music crossover appeal and says that performing in front a pop crowd has worked well for her. "Honestly, it's been epic," she said. "They have an amazing spirit, a great vibe, and it's love every night, and I would not have traded this experience for anything else in the world."

'Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas' Trailer: Five Key Scenes

Third installment of the stoner-comedy franchise has something to do with the holidays ... and we sniff out a few other details.
By Eric Ditzian

In a way, "A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas" is the most high-concept installment in the stoner-comedy franchise. The titles of both "Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle" and "Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay" told you everything you needed to know about the films. But the latest addition? Well, it's in 3-D and has something to do with the holiday season, yet it can all get a little confusing for the series' munchies-having, navel-gazing fanbase.

The first "3D Christmas" trailer, which hit Yahoo! on Wednesday evening, should clear up most of that duuuuude-what's-it-all-about confusion. And MTV News' picks for the five key scenes should wipe away any remaining brain fog.

The Santa Formula
The witty tweaking of clichés has been at the heart of what this franchise is all about. After years of derivative stoner comedies, many with premises thinner than a tab of LSD, "Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle" took the formula to its storytelling extreme — what if we make a movie about two dudes trying to get some hamburgers? — and wound up delivering not only a funny movie, but one that breathed new, smart and ridiculous life into what had become a hackneyed subgenre. "3D Christmas," which hits theaters in November, turns its postmodern attention to the holiday movies, as we see in this scene of Harold accidently shooting Santa in the face. How many Christmas movies will the new movie riff on? We smell the heady scent of a future college-dorm-room party game.

The Comedy Equation
If the big picture of the franchise has been devoted to undercutting cinematic clichés, the undercurrent running through so many individual scenes has been the filmmakers' quest to identify and explode stereotypes. Race, religion, sexuality — it's all been roped into laugh lines, sometimes with less success than others (see "Escape from Guantanamo Bay"). The third film in the series keeps the fearless tradition going, as in one scene where Kumar is rejected by a lovely lady with the line, "Sorry, I don't date black guys."

Claymazing!
But hey, perhaps we're being a bit too high-minded. The franchise can also be enjoyed (when it's enjoyable) as a straightforward, drug-addled buddy comedy. In "3D Christmas," the two friends are still getting' high and gettin' into trouble, as when they mistakenly get a toddler stoned or, in this scene, when they're dosed with a hallucinogen. Cue one of the more creative visual representations of the drug experience in recent memory: Harold and Kumar become claymation figurines. It's a fun, unexpected moment, which makes us think filmmakers should have held the scene back so it'd be fresh (and fun and unexpected) in theaters.

"Avatarted"
The new movie clearly wants to have its three-dimensional cake and eat it too, as Harold asks at one point in the trailer, "Hasn't the whole 3-D thing jumped the shark by now?" The answer, delivered by a TV salesman, is that the movie makes "Avatar" look "Avatarted." He's probably right. "Avatar" director James Cameron's approach to 3-D is to use the technology to create depth, as if in looking at the screen you're looking through a window. "3D Christmas" takes the opposite approach, hurling things (eggs, the Pope's tooth) out at the audience in a manner that has become less favored among filmmakers. Though not entirely. Hey, that in-your-face approach worked for "Jackass 3D."

NPH
There was a time when Neil Patrick Harris probably thought he'd forever be remembered as a super-smart teen doctor named Doogie. But his turn in "Go to White Castle" changed all that, launching the actor's professional second act. Now, NPH might host award shows and star in a hit network comedy, but he continues to pay respect to the raunchy franchise that resurrected his career. Ignore the fact, as NPH himself does, that he was shot and seemingly killed in "Escape from Guantanamo Bay." What's important is that he's back and ridiculous as ever. The same might well be said of "A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas."

Check out everything we've got on "A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas."

Britney Spears Enlists Joe Jonas For European Tour

'It's so funny to think I had [her poster] on my wall and here I am about to perform with her,' Jonas told People.

Britney Spears might be the Femme Fatale, but that doesn't mean she can't share the stage with a guy too. After announcing he'd be opening up for Spears at her tour stop in New Jersey, Joe Jonas announced Thursday (August 4) that he'd also be her opening act for stops in Europe.

People reports that the singer — who drops his first-ever solo album, Fast Life, in October — will be on hand for nine dates, including stops in Sweden, Germany, the Netherlands, France, Ireland and the United Kingdom. Spears heads to Europe in September after she wraps up the North American leg of her tour August 25. Her European leg ends in November before she heads to South America for a handful of dates.

"I'm really looking forward to being part of this," Jonas said of the jaunt. "It's a dream come true." He added that the warm-up gig will be an expanded version of smaller shows he's been playing these past few months in places like Chicago and New York. "I'll be playing more music than I have the past few times I've performed live so far. It's going to be really fun to perform some of my music from the album."

Jonas met Spears a few years back at the VMAs and said "she's a very sweet lady" and that, as a kid, he had a bit of a crush on the singer. "She was the first girl I ever had a poster on my wall of, and her album was the first CD I ever bought," he said. "It's so funny to think I had that on my wall and here I am about to perform with her."

Jonas recently wrapped up the music video for "Just in Love With You," which he filmed in Paris. It serves as the follow-up single to "See No More." Fast Life hits stores October 11.

'Dark Knight Rises' Recruits Pittsburgh Steelers For Cameo

NFL team was snapped shooting scenes as fictional Gotham Rogues.
By Eric Ditzian

The NFL lockout might be over, but life for the Pittsburgh Steelers was certainly not back to usual on Saturday, when Christopher Nolan's "Dark Knight Rises" swooped into Heinz Field and recast the team as the Gotham Rogues.

Clad in familiar black-and-gold uniforms, the Steelers-turned-Rogues included Ben Roethlisberger, Hines Ward, Willie Colon, Troy Polamalu and Heath Miller, according to multiple local reports. Former Steelers coach Bill Cowher returned to the sideline to play the Rogues' coach. Cowher and crew were joined by more than 10,000 extras, bussed in to film a fictional game between the Rogues and the Rapid City Monuments.

The shoot itself dives into some spoilery territory, so if you'd like to remain blissfully unaware of the goings-on in Gotham during "Dark Knight Rises," in which Batman faces off against Bane, turn back now!

Reports from the scene indicate that the football game is violently interrupted, with explosions, the presence of three tumblers and the arrival of Bane. After the players are reportedly killed and the assembled crowd is freaked the hell out, the villain comes out onto the mangled field, grabs a microphone and makes an announcement about how Gotham has been liberated.

What's perhaps most interesting about Bane in all this is how sickly he sounds. According to DC Comics lore, Bane became a test subject for something called Venom, a substance to which he becomes so addicted he needs it to survive. Couple that sickly voice with the production picture of a thick scar on Bane's neck, and we're starting to get an idea of a bad guy who is deeply unwell, not only in mind but in body.

The shoot stretched into the evening, starting off with straight football scenes and concluding with Bane's destructive entrance and announcement. It's just the latest on-location shoot for the city of Pittsburgh this summer, but residents appear to be embracing the whole thing.

"Forget Hollywood. You guys were great," an assistant director told the crowd at one point, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, "I'll come to Pittsburgh any time for extras."

Check out everything we've got on "The Dark Knight Rises."

Britney Spears Adds DJ Pauly D To Femme Fatale Tour

'Britney is one of my favorite performers and certainly one of this generation's most influential artists,' 'Jersey Shore' star says.
By Jocelyn Vena

A while back, there was a rumor that "Jersey Shore" star DJ Pauly D would be an opening act on Britney Spears' Femme Fatale tour. That rumor can now be confirmed as true. Pauly D will open for the singer on six of her August tour dates.

He's set to hit the road with Spears on August 17 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, before his jaunt with her wraps on August 25 in Charlotte, South Carolina. "I am so excited to be performing on the Britney Spears Femme Fatale tour," he said in a statement. "Britney is one of my favorite performers and certainly one of this generation's most influential artists. It's an amazing platform to connect with my fans around the country."

Spears currently has several artists opening for her, including Jessie and the Toy Boys, Nervo and Nicki Minaj. Pauly D served as Spears' warm-up act at her gig in Las Vegas in March, where he spoke to MTV News about her influence on pop music.

"What it means to DJ a concert like a Britney Spears concert or something like that, it's an association with monsters like Britney Spears and it just legitimizes your career," he explained at the Palms Hotel and Casino, where Spears electrified the stage just days before she dropped her album. "And it's just fun being onstage with Britney Spears performing like she's performing. I love it. I couldn't ask for more."

And if fans are expecting Pauly to DJ some of the singer's greatest hits, they'd better think again. "A DJ should not play the artist's songs at her concert 'cause she has to perform these songs," he said. "I'm not going to be playing any Britney before she performs; maybe after. I'll let her perform, let her shine 'cause it's her night."

DJ Pauly D will join Britney Spears' Femme Fatale tour on the following dates:

»August 17 - Grand Rapids, MI @ Van Andel Arena
»August 19 - Pittsburgh, PA @ CONSOL Energy Center
»August 20 - Columbus, OH @ Nationwide Arena
»August 22 - Indianapolis, IN @ Conseco Fieldhouse
»August 24 - Raleigh, NC @ RBC Center
»August 25 - Charlotte, SC @ Time Warner Cable Center
