Kids' Choice Awards Owned By Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift
Performances from Katy Perry and One Direction also stood out at Nickelodeon awards show.

<P>Host Will Smith was joined Saturday (March 31) by a bevy of stars for Nickelodeon's annual slime-fest, the <a href="http://www.nick.com/kids-choice-awards/">Kids' Choice Awards</a>. </P><P> </P><P>The movie star and MC kicked off the night with a KCA-themed rap that included the first sliming of the night, when buckets of the famed goo fell on the audience, setting the tone for the fun-filled evening. The "Men In Black III" star promised that 2012 would include a record-breaking amount of slime, adding, "No one is safe from the slime." That included Halle Berry, who was the first celeb to get slimed. </P><P> </P><P>The night's first presenters certainly brought the kooky factor up a bit. Nicki Minaj was decked out in a candy-colored dress complete with a bustier made out of tickets and bubbles glued to her skirt, as she stood alongside "Hunger Games" star Josh Hutcherson. The pair handed out the first blimp to Favorite Musical Group winners Big Time Rush. </P><P> </P><P><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:cms:video:nick.com:1118670" width="460" height="260" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="." flashVars=""></embed></center> </P><P> </P><P> </P><P>Real-life couple and "The Amazing Spider-Man" stars Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone presented the award for Favorite Movie Actor. Perhaps Heidi Klum should have shared this advice with him first: Never trust anyone at the KCAs. Decked out in a two-piece, midriff-baring top and sparkly skirt, Gomez also won for Favorite Female Singer. "After no longer doing my show, knowing you guys still watch it means so much," she said of her now-defunct Disney series "The Wizards of Waverly Place." </P><P> </P><P><a href="/news/articles/1682188/katy-perry-kids-choice-awards-performance-2012.jhtml">Katy Perry was the first performer</a> of the night. Done up in medieval gear, she flew across the room to the stage, where she broke out into her latest hit single, "Part of Me." Behind her, dancers were decked out in costumes from the same period. She served as a court performer, singing her scathing breakup track for the king and queen. The performance ended with Katy hitting the king with a pie. </P><P> </P><P>Perry also won a blimp for her work in "The Smurfs," declaring, "The only reason I'm here today is because I've never gown up. I can't wait to do 'Smurfs 2.' " </P><P> </P><P>Kristen Stewart won for Favorite Movie Actress for "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1." Beaming in blue lace, she said, "This is, like, the coolest awards show ever. I love Nickelodeon. I liked 'Doug,' 'Rocco's Modern Life.' Awesome. I just have to say: Katy Perry's armor was the coolest thing I've ever seen." </P><P> </P><P>Next up, the show got a bit serious when first lady <a href="/news/articles/1681879/michelle-obama-taylor-swift-kids-choice-awards.jhtml">Michelle Obama presented Taylor Swift</a> with the Big Help Award. Swift won the special blimp in recognition of her philanthropic efforts, including work with U.S. tornado and flood survivors and various youth-related charities. </P><P> </P><P>"I'm so honored. I have always wanted to meet you; this is amazing. I am so honored to be receiving this award from the first lady of the United States. I am freaking out," Swift said. "I'm really proud of all of you guys. I see you helping each other out. "This is amazing," he told the room of screaming fans. "Robert, I'm sure you'll be winning this award next year for 'Iron Man 3' and 'The Avengers.' " That Robert he was referring to was presenter Robert Downey Jr., not Pattinson, obviously. </P><P> </P><P>After winning, he was forced to do 1,000 push-ups by Smith. His reward for completing the misson? Getting slimed. </P><P> </P><P><a href="/news/articles/1682190/one-direction-kids-choice-awards-performance-2012.jhtml">One Direction continued their U.S. takeover</a> with their performance on the show. For "What Makes You Beautiful," the guys wore all black-and-white while futuristic lights danced behind them. Proving that everyone is a One Directioner at this point, Katy Perry, Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez danced around in the audience and sang every word of the song, while the fivesome kept girls screaming with their frothy, lighthearted pop track. </P><P> </P><P><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:cms:video:nick.com:1118658" width="460" height="260" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="." flashVars=""></embed></center> </P><P> </P><P> </P><P>The big twist of the night came when Cee Lo Green was revealed as Will Smith's nemesis, the man dubbed "Creepy Voice." "Creepy Voice" had spent the night taunting Will, telling him how inadequate a host he is. His reasons? "I've always wanted to be slimed," "The Voice" judge said. "My name is Cee Lo Green. Slime's green. Slime me!" He didn't get slimed, but he did get ice-cream-sundaed. Maybe next year, Cee Lo. </P><P> </P><P>After kicking Jaden and Willow out and accusing them of being "Creepy Voice," he brought his performer kids back out to hand out Favorite Male Singer, the night's last award. <a href="/news/articles/1682156/justin-bieber-explains-boyfriend-video.jhtml">Justin Bieber, fresh from shooting his "Boyfriend" video</a>, took the stage to accept his blimp. </P><P> </P><P>"Right now, I've been working really hard on my album, <I>Believe.</I> This album is our album. This [blimp] goes out to all the fans. I love you so much," he said. Lady Gaga Surpasses 20 Million Followers On Twitter
Pop star extends her record-breaking Twitter dominance over second-place holder Justin Bieber.

<P><a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/lady_gaga/artist.jhtml">Lady Gaga</a> is known for her prolific Internet presence, and now she can lay claim to another achievement: She's the first person to pass 20 million followers on <a href="https://twitter.com/#!/ladygaga" target="_blank">Twitter</a>. </P><P> </P><P>Mother Monster has yet to acknowledge the feat on her social network of choice, but, on February 9, when she noticed her number of followers eclipsed 19 million, she good-naturedly <a href="https://twitter.com/#!/ladygaga/status/167686723906703360" target="_blank">tweeted</a>, "19 Million Followers!!! HOLY HOOKER!!! *goes back to work*" </P><P> </P><P>Like many celebrities, Gaga has used Twitter to forge a closer relationship with her fans as well as make announcements about her career and respond to criticism, as she recently did when British music magazine <i>NME</i> named her hit album <i>Born This Way</i> the <a href="/news/articles/1679839/lady-gaga-most-pretentious-albums-born-this-way.jhtml">Most Pretentious Album Ever</a>. </P><P> </P><P>Gaga has been the most followed person on Twitter since August 2010, when she blasted past <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/spears_britney/artist.jhtml">Britney Spears</a> for the title when she reached 5.6 million followers. </P><P> </P><P>Spears now enjoys 13.6 million followers, making her the seventh most-followed person on the network. Currently in third place is Katy Perry with 15.7 million followers. Shakira (14.5 million) and Rihanna (14.5 million) are not far behind. </P><P> </P><P>The only person within spitting distance of Gaga on Twitter is <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/bieber_justin/artist.jhtml">Justin Bieber</a>. The recent <a href="/news/articles/1680248/justin-bieber-birthday-gifts.jhtml">birthday boy</a> has just over 18 million followers. He is, however, a far more prolific tweeter than Gaga; the <a href="http://www.latimes.com/business/technology/la-fi-tn-lady-gaga-20-million-followers-twitter-20120305,0,4076491.story" target="_blank"><i>Los Angeles Times</i></a> notes that he has sent out 10 times as many tweets as the "Born This Way" diva. </P><P> </P><P>Gaga also enjoys a massive following on <a href="http://www.facebook.com/ladygaga" target="_blank">Facebook</a>, where she's been "liked" by nearly 49 million people. But Mother Monster cannot claim being the boss on Facebook. That title belongs to <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/rihanna/artist.jhtml">Rihanna</a>, who has been liked by nearly 53 million individuals.</p>

Taylor Swift Tops Billboard 2012 Top Money Makers
Lady Gaga, Adele and Lil Wayne make top 10.

<P><a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/lady_gaga/artist.jhtml" target="_blank">Lady Gaga</a>, Katy Perry and <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/adele/artist.jhtml" target="_blank">Adele</a> had huge years in 2011, with major tours, strings of hit singles, Grammy wins and #1-hogging chart-topping albums. But when <a href="http://www.billboard.com/news/music-s-top-40-money-makers-2012-1006415552.story#/news/music-s-top-40-money-makers-2012-1006415552.story" target="_blank"><I>Billboard</I></a> magazine compiled its 2012 list of "Music's Top 40 Money Makers" it was <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/swift__taylor/artist.jhtml" target="_blank">Taylor Swift</a> who ruled them all. In fact, the 22-year-old country-pop darling out-earned all of her fellow ladies combined. </P><P> </P><P><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:732753/cp~vid%3D732753%26uri%3Dmgid%3Auma%3Avideo%3Amtv.com%3A732753" width="460" height="260" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="."></embed> </P><P> </P><P>According to the magazine's calculations, Swift earned her #1 spot on the list thanks to reported earnings of $35.7 million in the 2011 calendar year. Those earnings came from a combination of revenue from the quadruple-platinum-plus sales of <I>Speak Now</I> and its accompanying tour, which grossed $88.5 million in the U.S. alone. </P><P> </P><P>But because Swift writes her own songs, she rolled up a big chunk of change in songwriting royalties as well. </P><P> </P><P>Right behind Swift was iconic rock band U2, who earned a reported $32.1 million thanks to their record-setting 360 Tour -- which grossed a whopping $736 million total over two years -- including $50 million in merchandise sales and 1.4 million in digital track sales. </P><P> </P><P>Country singer Kenny Chesney was #3 with $29.8 million, followed by previous tally topper Gaga at #4 with $25.3 million. She stayed in the top 5 thanks to sales of <I>Born This Way</I> and its accompanying Monster Ball Tour, which grossed more than $51 million. She also moved 12.7 million digital tracks. Lil Wayne rounded out the top 5 with $23.1 million, made up of 12.3 million digital track sales, $44.7 million in tour grosses and cash from his gig as founder of Young Money Entertainment. </P><P> </P><P>The rest of the top 10: Sade (#6, $16.3 million), Bon Jovi (#7, $15.8 million), Celine Dion (#8, $14.2 million) and Jason Aldean (#9, $13.4 million). Adele rounded out the top 10 list at #10 with $13 million, mostly from the unstoppable streak of her <I>21</I> album's <a href="/news/articles/1680635/adele-21-album-billboard-charts.jhtml">chart run,</a>
 which included sales of 6.7 million copies last year alone. </P><P> </P><P>The "Glee" cast were just outside the top 10 at #11 ($12.5 million), Katy Perry hit #14 ($11.9 million), Britney Spears was at #16 ($10 million) and like her sisters in pop, Rihanna made it to #22 ($7.6 million) through a combination of album and single sales and touring revenue. </P><P> </P><P>Other notable entries: Enrique Iglesias (#23, $7.4 million), Usher (#30, $6.2 million), Foo Fighters (#31, $6 million), Justin Bieber (#35, $5.5 million), Kanye West (#39, $5.3 million) and Linkin Park (#40, $5.1 million). </P><P> </P><P><i>Billboard</i> calculated the figures based on proprietary data from its Boxscore archives for concert grosses, Nielsen SoundScan for sales of physical and digital albums, singles and ringtone sales, and Nielsen BDS for terrestrial radio play and streaming service information.</p>

Usher's Next Album 'Soulful, Catchy,' Taio Cruz Teases

Set to work with fellow hitmaker <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/cruz__taio/artist.jhtml">Taio Cruz</a>, the two already cooked up some magic with their <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/guetta_david/artist.jhtml">David Guetta</a> anthem <a href="/news/articles/1670301/usher-david-guetta-without-you.jhtml">"Without You,"</a> and it seems they are hoping to recapture that spirit for Usher's follow-up to 2010's <i>Raymond v. Raymond</i>. </P><P> </P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Taio Cruz's Collabo With Usher Is A 'Secret'" id="vid:717257" width="240" height="211"></div><p> </P><P> </P><P>"I saw Usher a few times, but I spoke to him at length at David [Guetta]'s house when we were in Ibiza [Spain]," he told MTV News in L.A. after his Jingle Ball set. "He has very specific ideas of where he wants to go musically and sound-wise." </P><P> </P><P>Given that Usher has never shied away from exposing a bit of himself in his music, while also keeping the party going, Cruz wants to make sure they can connect the mind, body and soul for this next release. "He always wants there to be the soul in there," he explained. "I'm kind of, not the opposite, but I'm always like, 'Let's get straight to the point and be really clear with the message and be simple.' </P><P> </P><P>"So we try to match those two worlds together: being soulful and, at the same time, catchy," he added. </P><P> </P><P>Cruz can't yet discuss what they're working on: Besides "Without You," he said, "Everything else is secret." </P><P> </P><P>Usher said he was drawn to the <a href="/news/articles/1674782/usher-david-guetta-without-you.jhtml">Guetta hit</a> because he connected to it emotionally, explaining to MTV News recently what an important part that plays in his musical philosophy. "I think the world wanted a record like that. That [song] really spoke to the journey that I've actually been on in the last three years," he said. "Traveling all around the world, music sounds different.
