'Avengers' Team Is 'The Definition Of Family'

'Everybody is just an arm of the octopus,' Robert Downey Jr., tells Entertainment Weekly.

For the most dedicated "Avengers" fans who've been paying attention to every story printed, photo leaked or fan video uploaded to YouTube, it's safe to say that nearly everything we know about the Joss Whedon-helmed superhero epic is pretty awesome.

Entertainment Weekly has assembled the star-studded cast on the cover of this week's issue, along with an accompanying cover story that offers yet another excitement-inducing glimpse into the makings of what could be next year's biggest movie.

Whedon told the mag that he fully understands the amount of pressure he's under to deliver but that he has to allow himself room for error. "Every day I make some boneheaded mistake and I go, 'Really? Wow. So no learning curve, huh?' There is a weird element of: They handed me one of the biggest movies of all time, and I'm making it up as I go." As far as the A-listers in the cast go, there have been learning curves on their end as well, like Mark Ruffalo feeling anxious about taking over the Hulk from predecessor Edward Norton.

"Norton and I are friends, and he was like, 'You've gotta do it, buddy.' He basically bequeathed it to me," Ruffalo said. "It was very cool and very generous of him."

Meanwhile, Robert Downey Jr. revealed that he had to come to terms with the "sharing is caring" aspect of the ensemble film, versus pushing for his Tony Stark to be the centerpiece like in his "Iron Man" movies. "I said [to Whedon], 'I don't know what you're thinking, but Tony needs to drive this thing.' He was like, 'OK, let's try that.' We tried it, and it didn't work," Downey said. "Because this is a different sort of thing. Everybody is just an arm of the octopus."

That "octopus" — i.e. the ensemble cast that consists of Ruffalo's Incredible Hulk, Downey's Iron Man, Chris Hemsworth's Thor, Chris Evans' Captain America, Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye and Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow — has become one big happy family, according to all parties involved.

"Joss describes it as the definition of family," Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige said. "These are people who have no business being together, but they are thrust together and need to make the best of it."

Check out everything we've got on "The Avengers."

Lily Collins Is Our New Class' 'Ass-Kicking Girl Next Door'

With 'Mortal Instruments' and 'Snow White' still to come, the badass-yet-relatable actress is destined for mega-fame.
By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Kara Warner

Photo: MTV News

We called it way back in January: Lily Collins was an actress to watch in 2011.

At that point, her career was just heating up following a turn as Sandra Bullock's daughter in "The Blind Side." An impressive series of castings in high-profile films followed: "Priest," "Abduction" opposite Taylor Lautner and an adaptation of the best-selling YA series "The Mortal Instruments." A few months later, she landed the role of Snow White in Relativity Media's Julia Roberts-starring take on the fairy tale.

Collins is making good on our predictions, which is why we've selected her as part of our New Class — a collection of young talent about to rise to the top of Hollywood, including her "Mortal Instruments" co-star Jamie Campbell Bower. With her badass-yet-relatable roles, Collins is our New Class' "Ass-Kicking Girl Next Door."

Though she's had all of 2011 to get used to the spotlight, the whole celebrity thing continues to feel odd.

"It feels very surreal," she told us at the "Abduction" red carpet. "It's weird getting out of a car and people are saying my name. It's still a weird concept to me."

Give her time. Collins told us she'd like to model her career after Keira Knightley, Kate Winslet or Meryl Streep. "I like that none of them have stuck themselves in a box," she said. "They've done all sorts of roles — comedic, dramatic, they've gone from indies to big motion pictures. I love their choices."

And she's a fan of the New Class itself, which includes not only Bower, but Emma Watson, Josh Hutcherson, Julianne Hough and Nina Dobrev.

"It's an honor to be placed in the New Class of actors," Collins said. "I'm doing what I love, and I'm having the best time."

Tom Brady's Hair: He Likes to Change It Up

Tom Brady's Hair: He Likes to Change It Up

Tom Brady confesses he's into experimenting -- at least when it come to his hair. The handsome quarterback has sported everything from a Bieber cut to a barely there crop to his newly long tresses.

"I just like to change it up," Brady, 34, told Women's Wear Daily Tuesday in Boston. "I don't take it too seriously."

So why was Brady talking hairstyles instead of football plays? The NFL pro was hosting an exclusive grand re-opening party for an Ermenegildo Zegna store, People reports.

He took a moment to poke fun at one of his friends, saying: "Look at this guy, same haircut for eight years. There might be some cute girls out there who’d want to see something different."

So what does his supermodel wife, Gisele Bündchen, think of her husband's penchant for variety? The 31-year-old hot mama told New York Magazine's fashion site The Cut that her hubby looks divine regardless of hairdo.

"[His hair is] his choice," she said. "He can do whatever he wants because I'll love it no matter what. Short, long, red, whatever! It's all good!"

Ultimately, Brady knows fashion is his wife's passion, whereas his is on the football field.

"What I do on the field brings me the most satisfaction," he said. "I'm invested in that every day of my life. Winning is fun."

Eve, Diplomats Turn Out For Wolfgang Gartner's Weekend in America

'I could go on and on with what I feel for hip-hop,' the dance music producer tells MTV News of roping in all-star rap features on new album.
By Akshay Bhansali

After a stint in Texas, electronic dance music producer Wolfgang Gartner moved back to his native California, where resumed recording in a new studio. Now that he's all settled in, Gartner's got a treat for his fans too: a band-new album that boasts so much hip-hop star power he may become to rap what superstar EDM producer David Guetta is to pop.

But longtime fans of Gartner that have been devoted to him for hits like "Undertaker" and "Animal Rights" need not worry: Even with the big collabos, the Wolfgang product sounds no less underground.

Weekend in America, which dropped on Tuesday (September 20), features 11 tracks. Thematically, it's an effort borne of "life on the tour," according to Grammy-nominated Gartner.

"There is definitely a sense of patriotism there," Gartner (born Joey Youngman) told MTV News recently. " 'Illmerica,' the track came far before I knew the album was going to be called Weekend in America. Once ['Illmerica'] became a song, I started having these mental images of when you're flying over the center of the U.S., you see the little houses and you see America.

"And for some reason, that's what this song made me see: the soul of America, which is the bad part and the good part and all of the messed up stuff and the good stuff combined," the producer continued. "For some reason, that's just how it made me feel.

"Weekend in America was more alluding to going out on the weekends playing these shows, [where] I'm playing these tracks that I've been making. I'm playing other people's tracks, too, but it's kind of a culmination of what I see and what I hear out there that influenced the making of this album."

Even before its official release, America tracks like "Space Junk," "Menage a Trois," and "818" have already taken off as singles on the EDM scene. But with Tuesday's album release, Gartner emphasizes what his hard-core fans already knew: He's got a serious love for hip-hop. Rap princess Eve is featured on the party-hard "Get Em." Dipset's Cam'ron and Jim Jones jump on "Circus Freaks." Omarion belts on "Still My Baby" and as WG fans know, will.i.am gets busy on "Forever," which was released earlier this year.

"I definitely listen to hip-hop more than I listen to dance music," Gartner confessed to us. "When I'm in my car, all I listen to is rap. Obviously, I'm really into the Dipset crew — that's like half my playlist right now, the new Jim Jones album. I listen to a lot of old Snoop and West Coast. A lot of old Biggie and the classics. Kanye. I really like Drake, Lil Wayne, that whole [YMCMB] crew. I could go on and on with what I feel for hip-hop."

Of course, with that many hip-hop features on tap, many will draws comparisons to Guetta's pop crossover success, which has helped to bridge the dance and mainstream music worlds. But while their styles may be different, it's a comparison Gartner welcomes.

"David Guetta has been instrumental in creating the climate that we have now, where I can work with Eve and I can work with will.i.am, and they are receptive, the public is receptive and radio is receptive," Gartner explained. "He played a role in opening the door up for people like me to do the same thing and have success. I think the dance music community, including myself, owes something to him for sort of paving the way for that."

Weekend in America is available at Beatport.com Next up for Gartner is the video for "Get Em," with Eve.

Coldplay, Led Zeppelin Album Covers Featured On New British Stamps

Album art from Pink Floyd, Blur and David Bowie also included.
By James Montgomery

Photo: Royal Mail

On Thursday (January 7), the U.K.'s Royal Mail unveiled a series of 10 new stamps, honoring the most iconic album covers of the past 40 years.

The albums featured in the new series are the Rolling Stones' Let It Bleed, Led Zeppelin's IV, David Bowie's The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars, Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells, The Clash's London Calling, New Order's Power, Corruption and Lies, Primal Scream's Screamadelica, Pink Floyd's The Division Bell, Blur's Parklife and — the most recent album on to make the cut — Coldplay's A Rush of Blood to the Head.

Meant to honor "the most potent graphic images of modern times, many of which have provided a visual soundtrack to people's lives," the series is the end result of a lengthy research process by the Royal Mail, who looked through thousands of album covers by British artists before deciding on the final list. And, during a Wednesday night BBC Radio broadcast, it was revealed that the queen herself actually approved each design.

Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page — who helped design the cover for IV — was on hand to celebrate the release of the stamps and recalled the mysterious nature of the album's iconic imagery.

"Almost 40 years after the album came out, nobody knows the old man who featured on the cover, nor the artist who painted him," he said. "That sort of sums up what we wanted to achieve with the album cover, which has remained both anonymous and enigmatic at the same time."

Of course, any great honor is befitting of an equally great contest, so, on the same day the stamps were made available to the general public, Coldplay decided to give one of their Rush of Blood stamps away. In a message on their official site, the band held a contest to send one lucky fan "a letter using a Coldplay stamp, postmarked with today's issue date."

"We visited our local post office earlier today and bought some of the Coldplay stamps," the message read. "Very nice they are too."

Scarlett Johansson Hacked Pics Hit Net

Another celeb was “victim” to a hack. Scarlett Johansson’s nude pictures have hit the net and they are legit. Craziness! I’m sorry but how dumb can you be? I am not famous and there is no way in hell I would take nude pics of myself on my phone or make a sex tape for fear it would be seen by anyone other than myself! However, not all people live with this fear, and celebrities are still making stupid mistakes. I didn’t think Scarlett would fall into this stupid craze but apparently she did. These pics here are legit. She has even called the FBI to investigate and see if she fell victim to the hacking ring. This ridiculous ring allegedly hacked naked photos and videos from at least 50 female celebrities including Jessica Alba, Vanessa Hudgens, Selena Gomez and Miley Cyrus, and Christina Aguilera. Mila Kunis supposedly had a few pictures of a shirtless and ‘seductive’ Justin Timberlake on her phone, with one photo of Timberlake with pink underwear on his head. Another reportedly shows Kunis in a bath, with her modestly covered by the tub. I wonder if those pics will hit the net anytime soon? I am [...]

Audrina Patridge, Ke$ha, Adam Lambert Share Prom Memories

'Me and my gay best friend just danced until 8 a.m.,' Ke$ha tells MTV News.
By Jocelyn Vena

It's prom season, and that means high schoolers across this great land will be renting tuxes, buying fancy dresses and negotiating the details of their curfews with parents. So, before you take your pictures and get in your limos, we asked some Hollywood A-listers to recall their fondest prom memories.

"I had a great prom," Ne-Yo told MTV News. "I didn't get to go with who I wanted to go with. I got my second choice, but my second choice turned out to be the one I was supposed to be there with, so it turned out good."

Ke$ha, never one to say no to a party, had the best night of all her friends. "I went to prom with my gay best friend, and let me tell you, I had way more fun than anybody else at a prom with their boyfriends," she recalled. "Everybody else was, like, crying and drama and breaking up, and me and my gay best friend just danced until 8 a.m."

"Hellcats" star Aly Michalka doesn't have a favorite prom memory — because she never went to prom. "I was homeschooled, so I don't even think we had a fake prom," she lamented. "Like, maybe we had a home-school prom and I wasn't invited?"

While everything always seems to be in peril on "The Vampire Diaries," star Nina Dobrev had a less tumultuous night: "Having everyone get together and such a final celebration [is what I remember]."

Romeo went big for his prom. "My senior prom, I remember I pulled up in my red Ferrari. I was feeling like James Bond," he said. "And it was one of the best nights of my life."

"My favorite prom memory was probably going shopping for a dress, and our boyfriends at the time dressed up as 'Dumb & Dumber,' " Audrina Patridge laughed. "And so we were like, 'We can't dress up dorky ... we have to look good.' "

Roots drummer ?uestlove made a big decision on the night of his prom: "June 2, 1989, was my very last haircut; prom haircut, totally butchered my hair. He butchered my hair, and I vowed never again to ever get in a barber chair, so I grew that Afro on my prom night."

Adam Lambert said his prom date was a 10, so he definitely had a fun night. "I had a great prom. I had an awesome time," he said. "I went with one of my best friends in high school. Her name was Lauren, and she was really hot. She wore a really hot red dress, so I felt like I had arm candy."

Share your prom memories in the comments below!

Daniel Craig, Rachel Weisz 'Committed' To 'Dream House' Couple

Producer Ehren Kruger talks about the newlyweds' performance in the thriller, in our Fall Movie Preview.
By Josh Horowitz

Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz married in a quiet New York ceremony in June, an idyllic union that presents a stark contrast to their onscreen marriage in "Dream House."

A genre mash-up with thriller and horror elements directed by Jim Sheridan, the film begins with a familiar setup: Craig, Weisz and their daughters move to a new home, only to discover their quarters are nothing like what they expected. From there, though, "Dream House" takes a twist, one that makes viewers reconsider everything they've previously seen and which was revealed in a surprisingly spoiler-filled trailer this summer.

Click for photos from fall's biggest flicks!

But as producer Ehren Kruger told MTV News recently, that twist is just one in a flick filled with them. If you think you know everything "Dream House" has in store, he made clear that you're missing all the clues — just as Kruger and the rest of the cast and crew seemingly missed the signs on set that Craig and Weisz's heated on-camera coupling was the beginning of a trip down the aisle.

As part of our Fall Movie Preview, we not only have a chat with Kruger, but the first clip from the film, in which Weisz confesses that she's certain something is wrong with their new home and Craig promises to hire a priest or "feng shui the place." Hit play on the video above and then read on for Kruger's interview.

MTV: You've got some impressive talent in front of and behind the camera. How did all those pieces of the puzzle come together?

Ehren Kruger: It started with the original script by David Loucka, which blended genres in a very interesting way. That caught the eye of Jim Sheridan, and he's not a director who is known for doing straightforward genre pieces. So he responded to some of the deeper character ideas in the script, and once he became interested, we started developing the script with him and very quickly there were actors like Daniel and Rachel and Naomi [Watts] that were interested in being a part of it, because his reputation is so wonderful with performance. You don't always get that in genres that are perceived as just a mystery or just a scary movie or just a thriller, so getting involved in this allowed the actors to bring their A-game and challenge themselves performance-wise.

MTV: As you said, this is not the type of film that Jim Sheridan normally takes on. Why was he the right guy for the job?

Kruger: He's often dealing with families in an emotional crisis. He really responds to that sort of environment, so while this story has a lot of the scary genre trappings and mystery trappings, at its core it's really a family that's in intense crisis.

MTV: In terms of developing the script, what are the influences you drew on?

Kruger: It shares some genre DNA with movies like "The Others" or "The Sixth Sense" or "Rosemary's Baby" and movies that really try to cast a spell in terms of mood. In the world of scary thriller mysteries, there are the vampires and the zombies and the mask killers. They are very upfront with what is scary about them. And then there are the more traditional ghost-story antagonists, where their secrets can play something even more sinister. You don't quite know who is pulling the strings and what to be afraid of. We talked about some of those classic ghost-story influences like "The Haunting" or "The Innocence" or "The Shining," movies where you are dealing with something you initially think you can fight or combat but then aren't sure if you can at all.

MTV: Tell us about what Daniel brought to the table, how he approached the material and how he made the character his own.

Kruger: He's a very intense person, and it comes across in his roles and on the screen. This is a character who, on the outside, seems like an everyman, a family man, but you come to find out he has a number of demons of his own. Daniel was really able to dig into those and pull off a very intense portrayal of a man trying to protect his family in nearly an impossible situation. It's a very valiant performance from him. And the chemistry between him and Rachel, which is kind of the core of the film, is really great.

MTV: Was their relationship off camera apparent to you on the set?

Kruger: They are both very focused actors, so you just figured they were really committed to their performance of this married couple. There is method acting and I guess there is matrimonial method acting. But I wouldn't say it was apparent during shooting. They were playing the roles as professional, and it went from there.

MTV: You show a big twist in the trailer about the murders that took place in the house. How do you make the decision of how much to reveal and how early?

Kruger: It's always a trick with movies that start off seeming like one thing and then turn into something else. In the case of this movie, it turns into something else again. You just have to make the decision of what is the best way to tell the audience that they are going to be getting more than what they think they are getting. You could have a trailer that doesn't reveal any of the revelations that they will come to find out about — the house where he lives and the family — and then there's just not quite enough juicy material to sell the movie. You have to provide a little and assure the audience there's going to be more revelations.

MTV: When do you find out who the murderer is in the movie?

Kruger: It will be in the first half of the movie that you are getting the revelations that are in the trailer, so there is still half of the movie of mystery to tell.

'Abduction' Star Lily Collins Talks Taylor Lautner Kiss

Trailer shows only a 'minor part' of steamy scene, the actress reveals in our Fall Movie Preview.
By Amy Wilkinson

Photo: Lionsgate

Lily Collins is just two years into her burgeoning film career, but the 22-year-old actress has already racked up an impressive collection of A-list co-stars, including Sandra Bullock and Julia Roberts. And, of course, "Twilight" hunk Taylor Lautner, who stars alongside Collins in the upcoming "Abduction."

Click for exclusive photos from Fall's biggest flicks.

The action-thriller centers on Lautner's Nathan, who goes on the run with classmate Karen (Collins) to uncover his true identity after he discovers he's actually a missing child. In anticipation of the September 23 release, we called up Collins to chat about this latest action-packed role, doing her own stunts and ... that smooch with Lautner.

MTV: Where does your character, Karen, fit on the spectrum of damsel in distress to kickass heroine?

Lily Collins: We meet her in high school at the beginning of the story, and she's had some sort of awkward past with Nathan that is alluded to, and they're really awkward with each other at the beginning. She's [a] cheerleader-kind of popular girl in school. And through this school assignment, she's thrown into this crazy on-the-run journey with Nathan. And she starts out a young high school student and she grows into a woman quite fast during the story. She ends up kicking butt.

MTV: We've seen Lautner sliding down buildings and generally being badass in the trailer, but how physical was this role for you?

Collins: I get physical in the film but also use my surroundings and take note and use my mind to get out of things, like my female smarts.

I got to do pretty much all of my own stunts. Ever since "Priest," I've gotten really into stunt training. For "Snow White," it's been very intense fight training and fencing for a few months, but not for "Abduction." I didn't have training. I'd get to try things out a couple of times before we actually shot it. For me, I love just kind of diving into it. I don't mind if I'm bruised or bumped or whatever. I feel like the more bumps and bruises I get, the more into it I'm getting and the more real it's looking.

MTV: We have to talk about that hot train kiss between you and Taylor. You know MTV likes to give out Golden Popcorns for such things. Could you see "Abduction" scoring a Best Kiss honor at the Movie Awards?

Collins: [Laughs] Well, let's just say the trailer only shows a minor part of that scene. So I think when people see the entire scene and where it starts and where it ends, I think people will get a little bit more excited about the scene when they see the entire thing. It was a crazy, funny scene to shoot, and Taylor made everything very comfortable. We'll see what people say. Like I said, the trailer shows only a minor part of it.

MTV: Perhaps you just answered this next question, but what was your favorite scene to film?

Collins: [Laughs] No. [It's when] the house explodes and we have to jump into the pool and we have debris falling on us. We did a separate day when we filmed solely underwater because we're thrown into this pool, and the camera goes underwater and fire is everywhere. I'd never done something like that. You know, holding your breath for however long it was and having fire in the swimming pool we shot in and stuff falling on you, it was really so in the moment and energetic and very crazy to be shooting like that.

Los Angeles

I'm here! I'm here! And I saw my first gang-banger get arrested yesterday so I feel like a total Angeleno.

I'm getting ready to go to the gym (again, like a total Angeleno!) so I will update later about my run-ins with Alexander Skarsgard, Pauly Shore, and Jeremy or Jason London (I'm not sure which one it was and seeing if I could force him to do drugs to find out seemed unfair. Besides, as it turned out, he was telling the truth?)

Anyhoo, I've got a lot to tell you about gardening! (Did you know if you get dirt wet it turns into mud? Yuck.)

And bumpers! (They don't bump off anything... they go, "Scraaaaaaaatch!")

And there's probably more but, again, I have to go because I have to get to the gym!

Captain America

Go see Captain America this weekend! Support our Colin!

I went to the premiere on Tuesday and it was the coolest thing ever. First, the movie is AMAZING and Chris Evans is a superstar. Second, there were so many damn people there it was insane. I have been to movie premieres in New York before and they were nothing like this. I mean, they closed down Hollywood Boulevard. I would've taken photos to show you, but the invite said to leave phones in the car. But here's a photo of me in my cool Captain America 3D glasses:

(Sit down, stop jumping around, it's an awesome picture, I know. And the quality is amazing. It's not grainy or reddish... it's perfect.) (No, it's not.)

(And you can totally see the Captain America logo on the side of the glasses.) (No, you can't.)

Anyway, Captain America is pulling a strong 71% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes right now so GO SEE IT! IT'S FANTASTIC!

'Survivor' Champs Ethan & Jenna Join 'Amazing Race' Cast

'Survivor' Champs Ethan & Jenna Join 'Amazing Race' Cast

For the first time in The Amazing Race history, two Survivor champions will compete together, as couple Ethan Zohn (Survivor: Africa) and Jenna Morasca (Survivor: The Amazon) head up the show's 19th cast.

Although the popular international competition, which premieres Sept. 25 on CBS, has previously included various reality-show veterans (Survivor alums Rob Mariano and Amber Brkich have competed twice; former Big Brother residents Jeff Schroeder and Jordan Lloyd, as well as Alison Irwin and her boyfriend Donny), Ethan, 37, and Jenna, 30, are the first team composed of two reality-show winners.

The long-term couple, who've been dating since 2003, told Entertainment Weekly that the competition is "especially sweet" considering his recent medical struggles associated with his Hodgkin's lymphoma diagnosis.

"Last year I was attached to a pump in complete isolation in a f—ing hospital room, and now I'm out traveling the world with the woman I love. Whatever happens, it's gonna be okay," Zohn told EW.com just before the race began. "But if she screws up, I'm gonna kill her."

Despite her impressive win on Survivor, Morasca says she is definitely the more nervous half of the team. "I'm surprisingly more nervous than Ethan so I told him unless it's a horseback riding, pole dancing, circus, animal, or shopping challenge, that he's doing the first Roadblock."

Other famous globetrotting contestants include Zac Sunderland, who at 16 became the first person under 18 to sail solo around the world, and his father Laurence; retired NFL player Marcus Pollard and his wife Amani; and former Olympic snowboarders Andy Finch and Tommy Czeschin.
