<P>You kind of can't go wrong when the soundtrack you've put together for one of the most eagerly anticipated literary adaptations in years kicks off <a href="/music/artist/yeah_yeah_yeahs/artist.jhtml">Yeah Yeah Yeahs</a> singer Karen O's take on <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/led_zeppelin/artist.jhtml">Led Zeppelin</a>'s "Immigrant Song." </P><P> </P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" id="vid:693384" width="240" height="211"></div><p> </P><P> </P><P>Fans heard the throbbing industrial take on the rock classic cooked up by former Nine Inch Nails mastermind and O when a trailer for the David Fincher-directed "Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" leaked back in May. And on Thursday, Oscar-winning industrial-rocker-turned-film composer Reznor and musical partner Atticus Ross unveiled the full track list for their "Tattoo" score album. </P><P> </P><P>The follow-up to their award-winning "The Social Network" score was a labor of love, according to a <a href="http://nin.com/?id=102677" target="_blank">post</a> Reznor put up on the NIN site on Thursday announcing the disc. "For the last fourteen months Atticus and I have been hard at work on David Fincher's 'The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo,' " he wrote about the American version of the tale of pierced and punished hacker <a href="/news/articles/1655879/rooney-mara-dragon-tattoo.jhtml">Lisbeth Salander (Rooney Mara)</a> and her muckraking journalist compatriot <a href="/news/articles/1667542/daniel-craig-rooney-mara-girl-with-the-dragon-tattoo.jhtml">Mikael Blomkvist (Daniel Craig)</a>. Coldplay, Led Zeppelin Album Covers Featured On New British Stamps

Album art from Pink Floyd, Blur and David Bowie also included.
By James Montgomery

<P>On Thursday (January 7), the U.K.'s Royal Mail unveiled a series of 10 new stamps, honoring the most iconic album covers of the past 40 years. </P><P> </P><P>The albums featured in the new series are the <a href="/music/artist/rolling_stones/artist.jhtml">Rolling Stones</a>' <i>Let It Bleed,</i> <a href="/music/artist/led_zeppelin/artist.jhtml">Led Zeppelin</a>'s <i>IV,</i> <a href="/music/artist/bowie_david/artist.jhtml">David Bowie</a>'s <i>The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars,</i> <a href="/music/artist/mike_oldfield/artist.jhtml">Mike Oldfield</a>'s <i>Tubular Bells,</i> <a href="/music/artist/clash/artist.jhtml">The Clash</a>'s <i>London Calling,</i> <a href="/music/artist/new_order/artist.jhtml">New Order</a>'s <i>Power, Corruption and Lies,</i> <a href="/music/artist/primal_scream/artist.jhtml">Primal Scream</a>'s <i>Screamadelica,</i> <a href="/music/artist/pink_floyd/artist.jhtml">Pink Floyd</a>'s <i>The Division Bell,</i> <a href="/music/artist/blur/artist.jhtml">Blur</a>'s <i>Parklife</i> and &#8212; the most recent album on to make the cut &#8212; <a href="/music/artist/coldplay/artist.jhtml">Coldplay</a>'s <i>A Rush of Blood to the Head.</i> </P><P> </P><P>Meant to honor "the most potent graphic images of modern times, many of which have provided a visual soundtrack to people's lives," the series is the end result of a lengthy research process by the Royal Mail, who looked through thousands of album covers by British artists before deciding on the final list. And, during a Wednesday night BBC Radio broadcast, it was revealed that the queen herself actually approved each design. </P><P> </P><P>Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page &#8212; who helped design the cover for <i>IV</i> &#8212; was on hand to celebrate the release of the stamps and recalled the mysterious nature of the album's iconic imagery. </P><P> </P><P>"Almost 40 years after the album came out, nobody knows the old man who featured on the cover, nor the artist who painted him," he said. "That sort of sums up what we wanted to achieve with the album cover, which has remained both anonymous and enigmatic at the same time." </P><P> </P><P>Of course, any great honor is befitting of an equally great contest, so, on the same day the stamps were made available to the general public, Coldplay decided to give one of their <i>Rush of Blood</i> stamps away. In a message on their official site, the band held a contest to send one lucky fan "a letter using a Coldplay stamp, postmarked with today's issue date." </P><P> </P><P>"We visited our local post office earlier today and bought some of the Coldplay stamps," the message read. "Very nice they are too."</p>

'Hunger Games' Actress Isabelle Fuhrman Wanted To Play Katniss

'I went in and actually auditioned for her, but I was too young,' recalls the 15-year-old, who plays District 2 tribute Clove instead.
By Amy Wilkinson

Few film roles in recent memory have been as hotly contested as the bow-and-arrow-wielding heroine of Suzanne Collins' dystopian "Hunger Games."

A year ago, it seemed every working actress in Hollywood under the age of 25 was auditioning for the role of Katniss Everdeen — a part that eventually went to Oscar nominee Jennifer Lawrence. But director Gary Ross was able to utilize at least one would-be Katniss, namely Isabelle Fuhrman, who plays District 2's vicious tribute Clove.

"I saw myself as Katniss, but I think everyone does when they read the book, because that's the character that you related to so much because you're seeing the whole story through her eyes," Fuhrman told MTV News recently. "From page one, I was like, 'Oh, I want to be Katniss so badly.' That's what I wrote in [a] letter to Gary, how much I wanted to play Katniss. I went in and actually auditioned for her, but I was too young because I [was] 14."

Of course, Fuhrman said there are no hard feelings between her and Lawrence, whom she described as the "perfect" Katniss. In fact, landing the role of Clove came with the bonus of learning a new (potentially lethal) skill: knife throwing.

"I'm not going to be modest right now: I'm very good at it, and I'm very proud of that," Fuhrman said with a grin. "That was so hard to learn how to do, because there is a lot of physics involved with it. The knife goes three knife-lengths each rotation, and [you have to] how much force you want to put into it so it lands with the blade in versus the butt. It was difficult, to say the least, because I did training for about only two weeks before we started shooting, so I had to pick it up pretty quickly."

You can witness Fuhrman's nifty knife skills when "The Hunger Games" opens Friday.

Madonna Owns 'Girl Gone Wild' Title In New Video

Queen of Pop pays homage to her Erotica days with saucy black-and-white clip for second MDNA single.
By Jocelyn Vena

While Madonna favored vintage, kitschy, colorful images for her "Give Me All Your Luvin" video, the Queen of Pop opted for black-and-white sex for her just-released "Girl Gone Wild" clip.

Shot by fashion photographers Mert and Marcus (who also did the album's more multihued artwork), the video was the perfect homage to the singer's foxy "Sex" book and Erotica days of the '90s. Crunchy, sexy and edgy, the "GGW" clip is certainly the perfect response for anyone yearning for that Madge of yesteryear.

Twenty years after Madonna had conservative-minded folks worried about her sexy influence over pop culture, the singer can still make us want her and whatever brand of sex she's selling. Pleather, whips, chains and same-sex action define the images in the saucy clip. While "Give Me" featured pals Nicki Minaj and M.I.A., the only "Girl" in this video is Madge, who gets raunchy with a number of male dancers.

The video opens with Madonna in full glamour mode (big hair and diva makeup) declaring how she wants to be good but just can't fight the bad. We mean, who could blame her with all that eye candy around? Spastic shots of her doing yoga are intercut with ones of her dancing around and sexy male dancers posing with one another (and sharing an apple in a way we haven't seen before). The video also features an electrifying dance sequence, with men in tights and heels, really calling attention to Madonna's never-ending need to create memorable images.

It's clear this girl wants to have fun and she wants to be licked, kissed and grinded on by hot dudes. This is Madonna, so fans shouldn't be surprised that she's favoring erotic scenes in which she mugs for the camera with beefy guys all over her. Eventually, Madge proves she's still got the moves when she joins the dancers for another choreographed sequence.

As the video continues to show the singer and her dancers just being attractive with one another, the final shot is a close-up of Madonna, crying thick, black tears, proving that wild girls are saddest when the party is over.

Mert and Marcus are best known for their work as fashion photographers, and that influence is certainly felt in this video. It plays out as if it's a series of shots in a fashion magazine. MDNA, the singer's 12th studio album, is set for release on Monday. "GGW" is the second single from it.

'American Idol' Castoff Shannon Magrane Doesn't Regret Tackling Mariah Carey

Eliminated 16-year-old tells MTV News that Carey's power ballad 'One Sweet Day' has sentimental value.
By Christina Garibaldi

Although Shannon Magrane was sent packing on last week's episode of "American Idol," the 16-year-old Tampa, Florida, native has no hard feelings about her early elimination.

On Monday (March 19), Magrane stopped by the MTV Newsroom and reflected on her fun, if brief time on the "Idol" stage.

"It's hard, you never know what America is thinking," Magrane admitted. "It's crazy, but I loved it. It was a great learning experience for me. I loved every minute of it."

During her final performance, Magrane took on Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men's "One Sweet Day," which received relatively positive remarks from the judges. But in the end, that wasn't enough to save her from elimination. And while "Idol" judges usually advise contestants to stay away from Carey's power ballads, Magrane has no regrets about her song choice.

"I was happy I sang that song," Magrane said. "What not a lot of people know about that was that I chose that song because it was a song that me and my Papa sang together," she added of the tribute to her grandfather. "And [I] sang it because before he passed away, that was our favorite song that he would always sing to me. I just felt emotionally connected to that song."

Magrane wasn't the only contestant eliminated on "American Idol" last week. Jermaine Jones made a surprising exit after producers claimed he misled them about his history of arrests. The news was a shock to viewers but also to the contestants.

"That was definitely one of the biggest shockers on 'Idol' that I've ever seen so far, and I've been watching it since I was a little girl. That was a big shocker," Magrane said. "We all found out when America found out, we were all so shocked ... we were so sad because he was one of the people that were the funniest people in our group. He was always making people feel happy and laugh all the time."

Magrane's 11th-place elimination means she'll miss out on the singing show's summer tour but she told us she plans to attend. For now, the teen just has her sights set on making her mark in the music industry — and finishing high school.

"I still have to go to school; I still have school work to do. But on top of that, I'm still going to be working on my dream," Magrane said. "I really want to be a triple threat. I want to be like Beyoncé and Christina [Aguilera], where they can act and they can dance and they can sing, and I think that people who are triple threats are unstoppable. I aspire to be like that, I aspire to be a person like that."

Do you agree with America's decision to send Shannon Magrane home? Let us know in the comments!

'Dark Shadows' Photos Reveal Faithful Fashion

Vanity Fair character portraits prove Tim Burton is sticking with the aesthetic of the '60s series.
By John Mitchell

Johnny Depp in "Dark Shadows"
Photo: Warner Bros

Another week has passed, and we still don't have a "Dark Shadows" trailer. For those keeping tabs, we're just over two months out (70 days, to be exact) from the scheduled release of Tim Burton's campy vampire blockbuster. But to whet increasingly impatient fans' appetites, in this month's Vanity Fair, Burton and company have released some character portraits of Johnny Depp as Barnabas Collins, Michelle Pfeiffer as Elizabeth Collins Stoddard, Eva Green as Angelique Bouchard and Helena Bonham Carter as Dr. Julia Hoffman.

The images — which are not yet available on Vanity Fair's website but you can see here — are nothing we haven't seen before. But hey, at least it means Warner Bros. is doing some promo, right?

Taking a close look at the portraits — and, really, we might as well, because there isn't much other "DS" material to stan over — it's striking just how close Burton and costume designer Colleen Atwood have kept Depp's big-screen styling to the Barnabas that "Shadows" series creator Dan Curtis developed for actor Jonathan Frid all the way back in 1967. The more we see of Depp in character, the more we're reminded of Frid, who also appears in the film.

"Johnny's very open about what things are in the process, but he really lets people present things to him. He never really pushes at all," Atwood told MTV News late last year about Depp's costuming for "Shadows."

"Sometimes he doesn't even look in the mirror in his fittings. It's so funny. It's pretty amazing. People would be surprised, because I think they have this image of Johnny, because he's so stylish always, but he really feels his costumes, more than looks at them, and the movement and the feeling in them is really important."

From the hair and pale, monstrous makeup to the penchant for 18th-century bling, it's kind of amazing how closely Burton is hewing to the look already established for the characters in the late-'60s series. And that's true of nearly all the key players in his adaptation: He's taken famed brunette Eva Green blonde, as Angelique (played by Lara Parker) was on the show, given Bonham Carter's eccentric Dr. Julia Hoffman the same sweeping '60s 'do worn by Grayson Hall and has Pfeiffer sporting dark, regal ensembles similar to those worn by Joan Bennett to play Elizabeth Collins Stoddard.

One notable exception is Chloë Moretz, who plays Carolyn Stoddard in Burton's "Shadows." In both the original '60s soap and the short-lived early '90s revamp, Carolyn is portrayed as being in her early 20s, but Moretz's Carolyn will be, like the actress in real life, 15 years old.

Indeed, Burton made a command decision to avoid the sexy vampire cliché that has become pervasive in movies these days. That he did so when his star is arguably one of the sexiest movie stars on the planet is especially commendable. Depp is far from what we deem traditionally sexy, but we still think he's weirdly alluring. Such is the power of the Depp, we suppose.

What do you think of these latest character portraits? Are you weirdly drawn to Johnny Depp's Barnabus too? Let us know in the comments below and tweet me at @JohnMitchell83 with your thoughts and suggestions for future columns!

<P>On Thursday (January 7), the U.K.'s Royal Mail unveiled a series of 10 new stamps, honoring the most iconic album covers of the past 40 years. The albums featured in the new series are the <a href="/music/artist/rolling_stones/artist.jhtml">Rolling Stones</a>' <i>Let It Bleed,</i> <a href="/music/artist/led_zeppelin/artist.jhtml">Led Zeppelin</a>'s <i>IV,</i> <a href="/music/artist/bowie_david/artist.jhtml">David Bowie</a>'s <i>The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars,</i> <a href="/music/artist/mike_oldfield/artist.jhtml">Mike Oldfield</a>'s <i>Tubular Bells,</i> <a href="/music/artist/clash/artist.jhtml">The Clash</a>'s <i>London Calling,</i> <a href="/music/artist/new_order/artist.jhtml">New Order</a>'s <i>Power, Corruption and Lies,</i> <a href="/music/artist/primal_scream/artist.jhtml">Primal Scream</a>'s <i>Screamadelica,</i> <a href="/music/artist/pink_floyd/artist.jhtml">Pink Floyd</a>'s <i>The Division Bell,</i> <a href="/music/artist/blur/artist.jhtml">Blur</a>'s <i>Parklife</i> and &#8212; the most recent album on to make the cut &#8212; <a href="/music/artist/coldplay/artist.jhtml">Coldplay</a>'s <i>A Rush of Blood to the Head.</i> Meant to honor "the most potent graphic images of modern times, many of which have provided a visual soundtrack to people's lives," the series is the end result of a lengthy research process by the Royal Mail, who looked through thousands of album covers by British artists before deciding on the final list. And, during a Wednesday night BBC Radio broadcast, it was revealed that the queen herself actually approved each design. Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page &#8212; who helped design the cover for <i>IV</i> &#8212; was on hand to celebrate the release of the stamps and recalled the mysterious nature of the album's iconic imagery. "Almost 40 years after the album came out, nobody knows the old man who featured on the cover, nor the artist who painted him," he said. "That sort of sums up what we wanted to achieve with the album cover, which has remained both anonymous and enigmatic at the same time." Of course, any great honor is befitting of an equally great contest, so, on the same day the stamps were made available to the general public, Coldplay decided to give one of their <i>Rush of Blood</i> stamps away. In a message on their official site, the band held a contest to send one lucky fan "a letter using a Coldplay stamp, postmarked with today's issue date." "We visited our local post office earlier today and bought some of the Coldplay stamps," the message read. "Very nice they are too."</p>

Tyga's 'King And Queens' Shares Name With Nas' New Label

Tyga tells 'RapFix Live' that his Nas-assisted track shares its name with God's Son's new label.

Don't let the popularity of "Rack City" fool you. Tyga's recently released Careless World: Rise of the Last King is packed with 21 joints (23 if you buy the iTunes bonus tracks). Among the most notable are the Lil Wayne-assisted "Faded" and "King and Queens" with Nas and Wale.

This isn't the first time Wale and Tyga have collaborated; the D.C. spitter appears on the official "Rack City" remix, but for Nas to link up with the Young Money newcomer is a big deal. "I feel like it crosses every angle, and the song is consistent. It doesn't fall off," Tyga said of "King and Queens" when he appeared on Wednesday's "RapFix Live." "From my verse to Wale to Nas' verse, it's just a perfect song from beginning to end.

"[Nas] actually has a label called Kings and Queens that he just started, so he was like, it's just cliché that I sent him a song called '[King] and Queens' and he just started a label called Kings and Queens, which is crazy,'" Tyga told Sway.

Originally Tyga intended for Nas to jump on another track seven months ago, but the rap veteran never turned in his verse. "It was real apocalyptic, I was like, 'Man, this would be the perfect song to send him because he could talk that Nas sh-- on it,' " Tyga said of the song that never was.

A few days before the YM standout was scheduled to turn in his album, Nas hit him up again with some encouraging words and an offer to finally record the overdue collaboration. "He was like, 'Man, congrats to your success, young homey. You doing your thing, I'm watching,' " Tyga said of Nas' message.

Chris Cornell Filling In For Robert Plant On Led Zeppelin Tour? That's News To Him

'I have not been approached to fill in for Robert Plant on the Zeppelin tour, but that isn't to say I won't be,' singer says.

The trek would feature original guitarist Jimmy Page, original bassist John Paul Jones and Jason Bonham taking over on drums for his late father, John Bonham. "I've heard that from about 200 people now, and it might be one of those situations where it's just an online rumor or it might be true. But if you see anyone from Led Zeppelin around, let me know. I think I should actually fill in for Jimmy Page on the Robert Plant/ Alison Krauss tour." Cornell's denial comes just a day after <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/aerosmith/artist.jhtml">Aerosmith</a>Aerosmith guitarist <a href="http://aeronewsdaily.com/blog/2008/10/31/aerosmith-guitarist-says-page-trying-to-motivate-plant-to-return-to-zeppelin/" target="_blank">Brad Whitford confirmed reports</a> that frontman Steven Tyler recently met with Zeppelin for an impromptu jam session. "They did it for fun," Whitford said during an appearance on the syndicated show "Todd N Tyler Radio Empire." "I actually think Jimmy wanted Steven to come over and play a little bit because I think he was trying to light a fire under Robert." Rumors of a Zeppelin reunion tour have abounded since the iconic band played <a href="/news/articles/1576186/led-zeppelin-give-fans-a-whole-lotta-love-at-reunion-show.jhtml">a single reunion set</a> last year at London's O2 Arena. <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/twisted_sister/artist.jhtml">Twisted Sister</a>Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider added fuel to the fire last month when he revealed that the group was thinking of touring, with or without Plant. <a href="http://newsroom.mtv.com/2008/10/13/another-led-zeppelin-rumor-almost-debunked/">According to Snider</a>, the rest of the band told Plant, " 'We're all rehearsed, we're ready to go. Here's a gazillion dollars on the table. If you don't do it, we're going out with this kid [Myles Kennedy].' " "And he can sing the sh-- out of Zeppelin," Snider added. "They're going to hope that Robert, at the last minute, will go, 'OK,' and step in." In a recent interview, Jones told BBC Radio Devon that a new singer was being sought to take over for Plant. "We are trying out a couple of singers," he said. "We want to do it. It's sounding great, and we want to get on and get out there." But Jones insists that he, Page and Bonham aren't interested in finding a Plant clone. "It's got to be right," he said. "There's no point in just finding another Robert. You could get that out of a tribute band, but we don't want to be our own tribute band. There would be a record and a tour, but everyone has to be onboard." Of course, even if Zeppelin were to approach him, Cornell might be too busy to take over vocals for the band. His upcoming <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/timbaland/artist.jhtml">Timbaland</a>Timbaland-produced solo LP, <a href="/news/articles/1596730/chris-cornell-debuts-timbaland-produced-track-on-tv-show.jhtml"><i>Scream,</i></a> will be released within the next few months. Cornell told MTV News last month that some of his fans might consider <i>Scream</i> something of a departure, but he doesn't see it that way. "It makes me happy that there's this perception that I have a group of fans that I'm now sort of throwing a curve at and what their reaction will be," he said. "But I've been in this situation so many times already. When I put out [1999's] <i>Euphoria Morning,</i> my main goal was to create an album that sounded like nothing I'd done in Soundgarden, and I did that. I also had that with Temple of the Dog, where I showed up with songs that weren't necessarily riff-based. And then, of course, the pairing of me and members of <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/rage_against_the_machine/artist.jhtml">Rage Against the Machine</a>Rage Against the Machine had everyone sort of speculating about what that would sound like. "It feels like I've done this so many times that when it's presented to me as being a departure, I feel that's a misconception," he added. "I feel like that's my theme at this point."</p>

Ke$ha Is Channeling 'Sexiness' Of '70s Rock For New Album

Glitter-heavy pop star tells MTV News she's going for 'balls-out, irreverent rock and roll.'
By James Montgomery, with reporting by Matt Elias

Ke$ha

<P><a href="/music/artist/_kesha_/artist.jhtml">Ke$ha</a>'s already got the face paint down pat, and, during recent live sets, she's even taken to <a href="http://www.popeater.com/2011/03/17/kesha-drinks-blood-during-performance" target="_blank">guzzling blood</a> out of a human heart, so it should come as no surprise that, on her upcoming album, the pop star is taking things back to the most <i>theatrical</i> era of rock: the prop-heavy, arena-spanning heyday of the 1970s. Ke$h revealed her plans over the weekend in Los Angeles, on the red carpet of KIIS FM's annual <a href="/news/articles/1663909/wango-tango-britney-spears-kesha.jhtml">Wango Tango</a> concert, where she told MTV News that the follow-up to her breakout <i>Animal</i> album (and, we suppose, <a href="/news/articles/1652714/kehas-cannibal-a-cheat-sheet.jhtml"><i>Cannibal</i></a> too) would be heavy on hard riffs and light on pretty much <i>everything</i> else. </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:652875" width="240" height="211"></div><p> "The next album ... I've been working on writing on the road, but as far as a sound, I just know it's gonna be balls-out, irreverent rock and roll," she said. "I've been pretty much in this '70s rock and roll kick and I just want to capture some of the true essence of what rock and roll is, and that's just irreverence and sexiness and fun and not giving a f---, so we'll definitely put a bit of rock and roll in it." So, does that mean that fans can expect the likes of Alice Cooper or Peter Frampton to show up on her new album? Perhaps. Because while Ke$ha's new album is still a ways off, she's already begun calling in favors, hoping to line up a killer collabo for the new disc. "I'm trying, trust me," she laughed. "I really would love to connect with one of my idols, I mean, that's my dream. I'm working on it." <i>What do you think of Ke$ha going rock for her next album? Tell us in the comments!</i></p>

Academy Awards Fashion Face-Off: Vanessa Hudgens vs. Ashley Tisdale

Vanessa Hudgens and Ashley Tisdale took a break from dancing to Beyonce together to attend Elton John's annual Oscar viewing party in West Hollywood last night.

The good pals may not have snagged any nominations or even an invite to the main ceremony, but they were still part of a memorable evening, watching Billy Crystal MC the three-hour event alongside a host of other stars that included Kim Kardashian and Miley Cyrus.

And, of course, the former High School Musical colleagues got all dolled up for the occasion. Compare their red carpet looks below and vote on the best.

Selena Gomez Clarifies New Tattoo

Our bad, Selena Gomez.

Along with almost every other media outlet, we mistakenly identified this singer's new tattoo as a mini heart, even going so far as assuming it was chosen by the 19-year old in honor of boyfriend Justin Bieber.

But Gomez cleared up the misconception last night.

Selena Gomez Tattoo

"It's a music note," she told Marc Malkin of E! News. "I was named after a singer and music obviously is a big influence for me. And there's music stuff with my mom that means a lot to me, too."

Fair enough. And far more sensible than permanently marking your body in honor of a boy. Even if that boy is Justin Bieber.
